MSI GS70 2OD-001US i7 4700HQ 16GB 750GB+128GB SSD 17.3in FHD LED GTX765M 2GB Win8 Gaming Notebook
Cons:Had to break warrantee seal to open the laptop, shipped with slow drives, C: Drive is tiny, replaced it immediately
Pros:Fast, Good Video, Great Processor, All drives are accessible through the bottom. |
As soon as I got this laptop and finished testing it, I opened the bottom side up and replaced the 128GB MSATA SSD with a pair of 256GB drives that run in RAID 0. I also replaced the super-slow 750GB HDD with a 1TB 2.5" SSD.The drives it ships with hold this laptop back terribly, I planned on doing this before I ordered it and as soon as I got the OS restored, it was screaming fast. Boots so fast that it doesn't feel like I'm waiting at all, and load times on games are barely noticeable. The slim form factor, bright, clear screen and keyboard are awesome. It's light and powerful with lots of ports for displays and USB 3 ports for everything else. The only negatives were:- There is a warranty sticker covering a screw that you must remove in order to get to the drives, so you're breaking the warranty by opening this beauty up.- It took some time to disconnect the battery. There is heavy tape in the way that I made sure I was very careful with because the tape was there for internal stability (keeping parts in place), and to hold wires in the right spots. It took time, but I was able to pull it loose enough to disconnect the battery so I felt better about installing the drives. A good friend of mine replaced the drives without disconnecting the battery and everything was fine, but I'm still glad I took the safe route. Was able to replace the tape exactly as I found it, it's some heavy, tacky stuff.Overall, incredible laptop if you're willing to take a risk, otherwise it's a fast, light laptop with a really small SSD and a really slow HDD.Recommended for technicians or people who want a big screen without a lot of weight.
