Mediasonic HFD1-SU3S2 4-BAY Hard Dive Dock SATA to eSATA USB 3.0 2.5IN 3.5IN
Cons:eSATA supports only the first drive (at least on my system). USB and eSata connectors are mutually exclusive.
Pros:Being a four slot toaster, it removes the need for internal bay/drawers and multiple individual floating USB disks. Comment:
I have had multiple bare drive toasters die on me over the course of the past 5-6 years (Both StarTech & Thermaltake BlacX). I hope this one is good for a longer run.USB connector gives you access to all four but keep in mind you have to disconnect the eSATA connector at the device for USB detection to work. |

Mediasonic HFD1-SU3S2 4-BAY Hard Dive Dock SATA to eSATA USB 3.0 2.5IN 3.5IN
Cons:- USB 3.0 is not so convenient as eSATA and constantly disconnect during transfer
Pros:- 4 storage bays compatible 3 1/4- eSATA option Comment:
bought this to compensate the lack of storage in my main computer. I have 4 2TB disks and needed a way to manages videos and editing stuffs. I was mainly attracted to the USB3.0, unfortunately it is not really working as advertised or the way you'd think it work. When using usb 3.0 your disks are barely being recognized as connected by the computer, and I experienced a lot of disconnections in the middle of file transfers. Worst, if one hard drive get disconnected, all other drivers hooked on the tray get disconnected too and reset. After messing with the USB 3.0 for a day, I had enough and went back to the old eSATA method which works way better and faster. No disconnections of the other disks if one disconnect or reset. It still a great device for my usage, I couldn't live without 4 bays, but the USB3.0 feature was a huge let down. Maybe a firmware in the future would fix this. |

I own 4 of these boxes now. My most resent one i got for 69.99 on the new years sale. I will buy again when i run out of room. Best price for a 4 drive holder. i been using mine 24/7 for about 5 months now and no problems yet. It has usb 3.0 and sata II. i use mine with Esata works super fast. can turn drives off one at a time using esata. if you use USB 3.0 they all disconnect when turning one off the drives off. then they reconnect within 10 seconds. |

Mediasonic HFD1-SU3S2 4-BAY Hard Dive Dock SATA to eSATA USB 3.0 2.5IN 3.5IN
Cons:No RAID
Pros:Silent, nice form factor, individual power controls.g Comment:
Two weeks ago I purchased a 4 TB drive from NCIX. I was disappointed to find none of my USB enclosures supported this drive. So I ordered this dock for to use with my new drive. So far so good. The drive is recognized as a 4TB drive by parted, and I have not experienced any problems with the dock. I like the fact that the drives are passively cooled. I was a bit nervious due to huge amount of heat generated by high capacity drives. However, with the very hot weather we have been having the drive is staying sufficiently cool.Of course I'll get more of a stress test when I add more than one drive, but so far I am happy. |

Pros:Power on / off of drives and easy slots for inserting the drives, no fans Comment:
I purchased this to test out HDDs for customers and transfer files from PC to Server, bundled this with a multi port esata card and this thing is amazing! No Fans so like in the past models there is virtually no noise that comes out of the probox. |

Mediasonic HFD1-SU3S2 4-BAY Hard Dive Dock SATA to eSATA USB 3.0 2.5IN 3.5IN
Cons:a little bit of rattling
Pros:fast speed Comment:
I got this about a week ago. The transfer speed was almost as fast as my sata Thermaltake BlacX which its replacing. My motherboard is supposed to support port-multiplication, but I can't get it to work. So instead of a sata box I opted for this dock along with a usb 3.0 card, because usb is more plug and playable. The hard drives are instantly recognized and the speed is fast. The only con I can think of is that the hard drives rattles a little in the dock (not all the time). The slot that you put the hard drive in is not as snug as the BlacX. So when the hard drive is active, it rattles a little. |
I read somewhere someone was saying that this thing woke up all drives when accessing just one. That hasnt been the case for me .. if i access one drive it only wakes up that one drive .. Not sure if that person assumed from the vibrations the others were awoken...? (Im on esata)Overall very impressed! Works as intended and for 88$ right now .. you cannot go wrong if you got drives sitting on the side!
