Mediasonic HFR2-SU2S2 PRORAID Box 4 Bay Raid Enclosure with eSATA
Cons:
Some parts feel a little flimsyWarns that it should be used only with add-in eSATA cards
Pros: Easy set upSmallPortable - No extra cards required |
I purchased the MediaSonic enclosure after a less than stellar experience with the Cavalry EN-CADA4B enclosure.I moved the drives from the other enclosure (this destroys any data on the drive) and hit the buttons for RAID5 and had it up and running. There were a couple of hiccups: I kept getting an error when I tried setting the array up with the eSATA connected. When it built, Win7 only recognized it as a single 1.5 TB drive. I repeated the creation process with the unit connected via USB (the unit needs to be connected via either mechanism in order to stay powered on). It was recognized in diskmanager as a full 5.5 TB drive. I moved it back to eSATA and have been using it that way since. Upon perusing the instructions, I came upon a line saying that using an on-board eSATA port is not recommended. So I guess I'm living dangerously.I have had three friends purchase this unit from NCIX on my recommendation so here's hoping this unit works well into the future.PS - as of this writing (11/02/10) the picture on NCIX is for the eSATA/USB/FireWire version This review was modfied by poster @ 02-10-11 04:50 AM
