Mediasonic ProBox HND1-SU3 2.5in 3.5in SATA HDD Docking Station USB3.0 Support SATA3 6.0GBPS & UASP
Cons:Space-wasting power brick. No hot-swapping.
Pros:Supports over 2TB, up to 6 TB. Comment:
I bought this unit to supplement an old Thermaltake BlacX HDD dock which (over USB) was limited to 2TB. This unit seemed the best-value cheap equivalent with over-2-TB support. So far it works out of the box, though I've not tried large disks or heavy data transfer yet. It keeps the support for both 2.5" and 3.5" SATA drives, and the compact non-enclosing design. The power brick is a big disappointment. It's narrow and long, but the North America plug blades are mounted 90° wrong. The long dimension either blocks 3 plugs on a strip, or overhangs by 6 cm. Also, the unit does not hot-swap; you must power it off before removing the drive. |
I purchased a SAT3510BU3 before, but had to RMA it due to some GPT partitions being unrecognised. Then I decided to give a try to this unit based on multiple external reviews and I can say that I'm very satisfied with it. It works with all GPT and MBR partitions I put into it. The only issue I found so far is that when you use 3.5" HDDs, they're a bit unstable, which is easily fixed by using anything that can stabilize it.
