Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 64-bit for System Builders w/ Tech Guarantee
Cons:Bad driver supportSlow compared to xpChews system resources
Pros:Free upgrade to windows 7!64bitStill Supported by Microsoft Comment:
Windows Vista was the first retail OS I ever bought, I was excited. But Soon I found my 2 GB of memory was freakishly slow with Vista, whereas XP ran quite well. So I upgraded to 8gb and reached workable speeds. The next flaw I found was that if I closed the defragmenter while it was running, I was unable to bring it back up and see what the status was. This was bad because hours later I turned off the computer, went to bed, woke up and when I turned the machine back on it began renaming hundreds of files with 3 digit extensions for which I couldn't initially tell what the files were. It turns out they were my mp3's and I ended up deleting most of them, because it would have taken too long to rename the extension, listen, and rename the file myself. Fun. They fixed this eventually via service pack.On top of that, my onboard sound wasn't recognized (it had worked in xp) and I found myself having to buy a soundcard. Also, it took about a year for my radeon video card to get supported. I was the lucky guy who managed to buy the powercolor card which vista just couldn't talk to. Sweet. And the last thing, I have never upgraded the drivers for my storage and LAN hardware. The first two times I tried, it broke my raid 1 and I had to resync. Then I accidentally approved them in the automatic update s and had to resync again. They still sit in the update list, waiting for me to install but no thanks.I just upgraded to windows 7 and have had no issues. Take the free upgrade. :)After a year of using Vista I finally wrote a letter to MicroSoft asking for an apology and my money back but they never replied. |

Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 64-bit for System Builders w/ Tech Guarantee
Cons:occupies a lot of RAM and HD spacemore expensive than Win 7 !
Pros:more useful or cool features than xpbetter looking GUImore intuitivetruly free win 7 upgrade Comment:
though many people criticized win vista, I actually found it better than XP. Had no problem filling the form for win 7 upgrade, and it does not charge any handling/shipping fee. Filled the form on Oct 23, and got win 7 on Nov 2. Good job. |

Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 64-bit for System Builders w/ Tech Guarantee
Cons:- It is Vista, which others may not like
Pros:+ It is Vista, which I don't mind+ Windows 7 upgrade application included Comment:
The included Windows 7 upgrade offer is easy enough to do, just have to fill out the required information, and it'll be sent out when its done (estimated shipping date for my disc is early November). |
overall good OS, but is seriously a pain for gaming because of the big ram usage, which slows the computer down. Think of ram as a workspace, vista takes a chunk of it away, and your left with a squishy spot. Not cool huh?
