Netgear 802.11n 150mbps Router W/dsl

I purchased this Wireless router DSL modem to replace my twowire wireless modem that blew its power supply. This is inferrior to the old unit in many ways. The wireless interface signal strenth and speed changes from minute to minute for no reason. The laptop I am using stays stationary, nothing in the whole house is moving or changing, yet the signal strength varies from low to excellent. Even with the signal strength showing very good, the bandpass is very slow with downloads frequently timing out. I have a desktop with a wireless interface thar worked great with my old router. It won't even detect this unit. This is just barely better than nothing at all.
