I Setup 4x 2TB Drives in it with Xraid (when drives were still cheap ^_^). It found one of my drives bad, and I replaced it. Once all said and done it actually operates pretty well, the only beef I have with it would be the webpage for managing the thing... its not exactly fast or really well laid out. But your only in there to really set it up the first time. Also the fan can get a bit noisy. All things considered there are probably better units out there, but on a sale this one is pretty good too. This review was modfied by poster @ 12-15-11 03:38 PM

I will not recommend this to anyone, the unit seems to have a lot of software issues and Netgear is slow to fix them.

This is overall a very good unit. Does what it's supposed to do. I use it to stream 1080p videos over the network to a media player and it does that without a hitch. Fast transfer times too. Easy to upgrade the memory (whoever's interested), although there's not much point in doing that; benchmarks show that you *might* get ~5% increase in performance which won't make a difference, as the unit already performs well.Some of the drawbacks include long rebuild times and somewhat noisy fan. Both are of no consequence to me as I keep mine in the basement and the device can still be used without a problem while it's rebuilding.Totally worth it (on sale)!!

Took overnight (6-8hrs) to initialize 6TB in X-RAID.Took ~1.5 hrs to re-initialize after power failure.Fan is horrendously noisy, especially at boot time. Has a hum to the fan as well. Doesn't matter to me, I put it in the basement.Jumbo frames are off or on at MTU=7936 only.PCs on my network transfer at 49MB/s. This thing transfers at upto 29MB/s after turning on all performance parameters (19MB/s at default settings).Included torrent client seems slow and never hit my max bandwidth. I use utorrent.All in all, still a great product. It streams and stores things just fine. Just don't keep it where you sleep and don't expect blazing speeds.

Before I got this I had (still use) a D-Link DNS-323 and a D-Link DNS-343 and I have to say that I LOVE this netgear device. Its A LOT more stable then the D-Link products I have. On an average week I will have to restart the dlink devices at least twice to get them working again. I have not had to restart the Netgear since I put it on the shelf.The only downside to this device is the transfer speeds to and from the device, on average I would get between 9 to 11megs a second. However I hear if you upgrade the ram (voids warranty according to a netgear rep I talked to on the phone) the speeds can jump up to around the 18megs a second mark.In conclusion it makes a great device to store music, videos, photos and tv shows on to stream to your Xbox, Playstation, HTPC or other media player.

I bought this and got 4 3tb hard drives and it took the better part of the night to set up. But i guess that is what happens when you have 12 tb tovprocess.

I bought this equipment to have a really stable and security of all our familly pictures, movies, video, musique, files, etc... But dont forget this is not a backup solution. But about this thing this is really easy to make a backup on an external USB drive, of anything with a facilities integrate in this solution. There is also a really great users forum to talk about differents things for problems or discussion about thi solution. Very simple to use even for a newbee. I bought it at 290$ with pricematch, really good deal. Dont think more go for it !!!

It took a little time to sync the 2TB hard drive but once done, was able to back up my PC as well as the Mac (seamlessly worked with Time Machine) Connected the printer to the NAS and now everyone at home can print from every computer.

I had been in need of a NAS for a while as my main PC was crashing too much and I did not have a decent backup solution. I got the ReadyNAS NV+ with 2x750GB drives and added 2 more to give me 3TB (2.1TB effective). This was around January, 2009.It has worked flawlessly since then, barring a few hiccups with our apartments power supply randomly failing. Fortunately I have not lost any data at all. My unit is connected to a UPS (APC USB 450), however the NV+ only has limited compatibility with UPS units - so be sure to check on the readynas.com compatibility list before getting one (highly recommend using a UPS with it).Earlier this year (March 2010), I lost one of the disks due to a drive failure so replaced it with a Samsung HD154UI 1.5TB drive and (because of the sales at NCIX ;)) ended up getting 2 more Samsung HD154UI 1.5TB disks. Upgrading the NAS to 4x1.5TB was a long process, but it did work. To upgrade the capacity you leave it on and switch out each disk one at a time letting it rebuild the array. This can take up to 12 hours per disk as the disk has to be initialised and then sync'd. Finally the volume expansion has to be performed during a reboot otherwise you will not get the extra capacity.My unit is now at 6TB with 4.5TB available. File sharing has been fine over CIFS, NFS and AFP. I cannot comment on any of the other features (such as BitTorrent or media streaming) as my unit has no internet connection and is purely a redundant backup box. The base functionality, however, works brilliantly and network transfers are around the 22MB/s mark on Windows, Mac and Linux (be sure to enable Jumbo frames and use Gigabit ethernet).I would highly recommend this NAS unit - especially if you are just starting out. If you require better redundancy, then the ReadyNAS Pro / Pioneer editions take 6 disks and can be run in RAID6 mode.

Use this with 3x 1TB drives in RaidX with no problems. Avg write speed 18MB/sec and Avg read speed 32MB/sec.Media sharing to a WD TV Live with no problems and very easy to setup.Highly reccommend to anyone.

I owe it to myself to write this review. I had a really tough time with this device when I got it (after almost 2 weeks of ordering). The device came with bad firmware. GET IT N3T G3AR SUPPORT I had to trouble shoot the device with at least 5 different tech support agents (mostly from the Philippines). This is NOT something I, the end user should be doing for nearly 2months. My cousin(network guy) helped me setup the device when I first got it & he said he'd done that b4 but it worked from the start. This one was full of different bugs. After all that TIME THAT I WASTED trying to fix their product, they finally agreed to send me a new 1. If the first things didn't work in the device, YOU FIX IT Net gear, send me a new 1. Support overall & on the Mac NO good. Network printing on i Mac. New device works with OK with 4 2tb sea gate drives

I've had my device for several years now, configured for RAID so I could be sure not to lose files (my main goal). Speed has always seemed reasonable to me on a 1GB network w/netgear 16 port GB switch, although I'm sure there are faster devices out there by now. This device has been rock solid for me, has never failed, and has never caused me even a little problem, which is exactly what I want in a trustworthy network storage device.

Bought in october 2009, sold yesterday. I replaced it with a QNAP TS-419 Pro. This device is extremely slow. The included applications are practically unusable (squeezebox server for example takes forever to scan and to even display the web interface). I upgraded the ram to 1GB to try and improve performance and no luck.Transferring files to it is also very slow. It has network issues in general, as confirmed by other people's experiences with it in the Netgear forums. I tried using various switches (managed and unmanaged) and the issue remained. Netgear is usually low end but for that price I expected something better.

Bought this diskless unit a few weeks ago and am pretty pleased with it. It has many features, you can install add-ons for even more functionality. X-Raid is pretty neat, especially being able to upsize the HDD space later on down the road and being able to use that extra space. Make sure you buy hardware (disks, ram) from the HCL to have peace of mind. A little bit pricey, but the other 2-bay NAS' don't come anywhere close to this. If you value your important data, then spending a bit more to have this bad boy should make you sleep easier at night.

Made the mistake of going cheap and buying ThermalTake's Muse X-Duo RAID. Only two ports and tended to crap out every 5-6 days requiring off/on reset. Decided to upgrade after reading about Netgear's products. The ReadyNAS NV+ works as advertised, four ports in X-RAID (hotswappable and futureproof), operates as a print server (no longer having to turn on main system to print from elsewhere), relatively easy and fast to set up, and file access is speedy to boot. All main operations are clearly shown on front bezel, installation of drives is easy, and the NAS utility is intuitive. Not cheap, but with the ability to upgrade drives as storage requirements increase (or drives fail), definitely well worth the investment.

Great NAS, replacing or upgrading discs is super easy (although takes a long time). It looks that some units have problems with power supplies - mine died after just over two years. Replacements from Netgear is quite expensive.

I have been interested in getting a NAS for quite sometime. I knew I wanted good performance and I wanted something with four drives. After researching online, Infrant ReadyNAS NV+ kept coming up so I decided to go with that.I bought the diskless version because I like choosing my own disks. I chose 4x 500GB WD RE2 drives. Figured I'd get enterprise level drives designed to be used in RAID configuration to maximize the potential on data reliability.From what I've read, going with 1GB ram was also a popular option so I bought 1 gig of crucial 200pin sodimm pc2700. Ram was a bit annoying to install because the manual never mentioned where to put it. Finally found it online but even then it wasn't something that popped right out. The default is X-RAID, some proprietary RAID... Seems decent, so I just left it. You want to change the RAID config, you'll have to wait for it to finish prepping (about an hour). From what I've read, the other ReadyNAS with harddrives in it already are all prepped and ready to go.Once the drives have been initialized, you can log into the admin panel. First thing that happened was it detected a new firmware and wanted to upgrade, so I did that right away. (I had already downloaded the firmware update so I just pointed it to the file location). This was painless.Setting up share names was a breeze, setting up users and their access to the shares is intuitive, FTP server on basically with a flip of a switch and some know how on your router firewall configuration. It's all the services I use. I have the NAS plugged into a gigabit switch but the switch doesn't have Jumbo Frames so I'm not getting the fastest speeds but transferring gigs of files is pretty quick. Unraring a 1.1 gig HDTV quality TV show takes about 3-4 mins.Plugging it into a UPS also detected my UPS right away without any software requirements.This is my first NAS and it's done everything I expected it to and easily. I haven't clocked it for speeds but if they decide they can make it faster with newer firmware, sure why not? Only real bad thing about this is the web gui that's a bit on the slow side.

This is an excellent product. It replaced an old SNAP appliance in a primarily Mac design studio.Compared to the SNAP it's night and day. Configuration is simple via the web-based control panel. Drives and memory are easy to access and upgrade. It's well designed and has an excellent feature set.My only caveat is that it has a bit of a learning curve, but that's to be expected with this kind of equipment which is pseudo-Enterprise level. Although it's much faster than the SNAP, we're still having a problem with slow USB backups. But with RAID the USB backup is more a "nice to have".Also, Infrant support has been very good and responsive. I'm very confident that they will be able to assist with any issues in the future.This is an awesome product and I plan to get one for the home as soon as I have the cash.
