Nextbook 7in Multi Touch Capacitive Android 2.3 Tablet 4GB SD Slot
Cons:No CameraNo BluetoothNo MicrophoneCannot connect an external USB keyboard
Pros:High build quality for a 7" Android Tablet. Does everything that a $300 tablet will do for a fraction of the price. With Custom Firmware it has full access to the Android Market and is fully Rooted.Accepts full sized SDHC cards for up to 32 GB of storage.Uses Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) so can play Flash videos.Plays all movie and video formats. Comment:
The Nextbook Premium7 is an excellent 7" Android 2.3 tablet. I bought mine from "Radio Shack" for $140, but at the NCIX sale price of $119 I think this is a steal. Because this is not an "authorized" Google Tablet, out of the box it does not have access to the Android Market, but there are some excellent custom Firmware ROMs for this tablet that will fully "root" it with RW access to the System folder as well as full access to the Android Market and working Google Calendar with synced Contacts. Check out Finless Bob's Custom ROM over at the FreakTab forums: http://www.freaktab.com/showthread.php?249-Nextbook-7-Premium-1211-Custom-ROM-with-Market3-4-4-By-Finless-Version-1-4 or Doc Hoppy's "Fully Rooted" ROM at the XDA Developers Forum: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1410862Because this Tablet accepts full sized SDHC cards, it has unlimited storage. I have a 32 GB SDHC card in mine which will hold all the movies and games that I could possible want. This was my first experience with an android tablet, and I am blown away by what a great gaming machine this is.If you've been thinking of getting an Android tablet, but didn't want to pay $300+ for a half decent one, this is your chance. For $119 you won't be disappointed. This review was modfied by poster q 03-07-12 07:22 PM This review was modfied by poster @ 03-07-12 10:59 PM |
Android 2.3 is barely usable on this tablet: slow and klunky. Did not come with Google Play, so you have to fiddle around to get Play installed, and even then many apps aren't compatible. Upgrading this to Android 4/ICS is very worthwhile if you're comfortable doing this and can find a ROM. ICS is very responsive and smooth even on this low end tablet. Even upgrading to ICS, a lot of Google Play apps show up as incompatible, but still work, so you probably have to fiddle some more with the ROM to get Play working probably. With tablets costing $10 or $20 extra with ICS already installed, more RAM, camera etc. this tablet isn't worth it.
