Pros:Easy to setup, good sound, attractive aesthetics.
Comment:
I picked up this package as a cost effective means into the 5.1/7.1 arena. The initial set up was quick and easy. Onkyo does a lot to make sure it's users are able to get things right the first time.Sound was good(to my ears at least), and I was quite satisfied with the amount of tweaking I was able to do.The major downside is that after about 4 months now the sub has stopped working entirely. It is not an issue with the amp, as the sub is a self-powered unit, and testing with a friends sub the output from the amp still works just fine. There were some reports that the sub cable wire was subpar so I replaced that with a higher end piece right away. Now the sub just sits there and "phases" itself on and off with no control via amp/volume knob. Having to unplug it to get it to stop. I have started the warranty process but I have a feeling I will be without my sub for quite a while.Another, albeit minor, con is the speaker wiring included with the system. It is very light in gauge and I can see it breaking down if it is handled often/has to fit into tight/cramped spaces and folds too much. I've replaced all of the default wiring with 12 gauge wiring to avoid this, as well as to accommodate for future speaker upgrades. All in all I wouldn't recommend this unit to others given the subwoofer issue seems to be relatively common and the warranty process is going to be quite arduous unless you live in a major city.
