PNY Quadro FX 580 VCQFX580-PCIE-PB Workstation Video Card
Cons: - Does not have SLi- Not as stable in SolidWorks 2010 SP2 as I hoped for (SW reduces Image Quality); should have gone with the Quadro FX 1800

Pros: - Does not need auxiliary power/Low power- Runs cool- Supports SolidWorks 2010 SP2.1- Supports Windows 7 Pro 64-bit- NCIX sale price, $149.99 CDN (June 2010)

Pleasantly Surprised
Comment:
I got this card as an entry level option for my new workstation build. I am a video editor, and I want to get into 2D and 3D animation as well as digital art. I also wanted to play some games, but learned that I would need to make the choice between workstation and gaming card. I have to say, I have used it for both and am very happy with it. In the Adobe CS4 master suite it handles video, photo, animation and compositing really fast. I have also used it for Lightwave and Maya. It's not the fastest card I've ever heard of for 3D rendering, but for the price it works really well. I cannot complain. I was really surprised when I tried out Left for Dead on my 1080p monitors. Wow! I had heard workstation cards cannot game. I expected the worst, but I was able to run 1080p at high effects quality with no problems. There is some frame rate slow down when a horde of zombies is around, but it's still acceptable. Highly recommended for pro apps and not bad for gaming.

You get what you pay for...

I currently work with 3DS Max. I bought this card to go along with my Intel i7 cpu, 6 GB of RAM and 64 bit Windows 7. Although the price was great compared to some of those other expensive workstation cards, I was not pleased with it's performance.. 3DS Max kept crashing while working on various projects... once I switched back to my gaming video card my problems were solved. Maybe this card helps for faster render times but when doing the actual work it wasnt a positive experience...

Replace your 8600 GT
Comment:
Get this graphics card and you will not regret it. Treat it like a small update to the 1 GB GDDR5 9500 GT which has been overclocked. This thing CAN game, but not as good as graphics card higher than the 9600 GSO.

Wonderful!
Comment:
I just recently started working workstation cards and I must say for it's price it is well worth it. It's very affordable compared to other workstations and the quality is A+. I haven't had any problems with it to date. I highly recommend this card!
