Samsung 850 PRO 2.5in 256GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive
Cons:More expensive, but has more...so not really a con.
Pros:10 years warrantyVery fast driveRAPID Comment:
Less than a year ago, I got a Samsung 840 Evo 120GB for Christmas. I unfortunately ran out of space (yes I am looking at you GabeN!) and decided to jump on the Samsung 850 Pro. I was quite satisfied with the 840 Evo and the Samsung tools so I gave them my money again. The difference between the 840 Evo and 850 Pro is not noticeable in Windows. Using benchmarking tools such as AS SSD shows an improvement, but I wouldn't say it is worth upgrading to gain more speed. I had to upgrade from a storage perspective.Still, I could have get a 256GB 840 Evo for much cheaper but really liked the 10 years warranty on the 850 Pro and the 3D V-NAND technology.RAPID is available on the 850 Pro, so if you got the RAM, it is a nice add-on.I am very satisfied with Samsung SSDs. I think they are one of the best drives for performances and reliability. Sure, Intel is the reliability king, but is not as fast and doesn't have all the bells and whistles included on Samsung SSDs. Crucial is well known for price/performance.If you have the money, get the 850 Pro. I got it on Black Friday w 168$CDN. Excellent deal at this price ! |

Samsung 850 PRO 2.5in 256GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive
Cons:- Samsung software does not recognize drives when in RAID
Pros:- Fastest SATA-based SSD, bar none.- 10 year warranty! Comment:
I bought two of these and set them up in RAID 0 on an Intel Z97 board. After 3 months and the array being 1/3 full, both ATTO and HD Tune confirm that I am sustaining ~1.1GB/s reads/writes, which is more than enough to please me. Unfortunately, the bundled software was useless since the drives are being used in RAID and were thus undetectable - a shame since it's supposed to have features to further enhance performance. |

Samsung 850 PRO 2.5in 256GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive
Cons:One of the most expensive per GB
Pros:One of the fastest SSDs I have ever used10 year warrantySamsung Magician Software is top notch Comment:
This drive is amazing. While i did not do a clean install and just cloned my old ssd (vertex 3) it is still blazingly fast. Even in regular usage such as surfing the web the sites seem to load faster. If you have a decent amount of ram in your system you can also enable rapid mode which uses your ram as a ssd cache. The samsung magician software allows you to enable hardware encryption and change the overprovisioning of the drive and will also change windows settings depending on the mode you pick (max performance, max capacity). While this drive is one of the most expensive you get what you pay for. The 10 year warranty is also nice as I wont have to worry about it. |
