When I built some mini ITX machines that couldn't take a DVD drive, I purchased one of these. They're small and light weight and work great. While the usage of optical drives is diminishing, having one as a standby unit is handy. |

This unit is quite small, and has the benefit of being USB powered so you don't need to haul around a power brick if you need an external drive. Seems pretty reliable, and isn't too loud either considering some small externals. |
especially great for thin laptop/ultrabook owners who need a dvd writer every now and then. i don't even miss having a laptop with a dvd drive, just more added weight. very portable so you can slip it in the laptop bag if you think you'll need it on the go. a real bargain if you can get it on sale
