Samsung SH-222AL 22X DVD Writer SATA Lightscribe OEM
Cons:None
Pros:Good speed, quiet, reliable burns Comment:
Drive has a smaller footprint than other drives. This makes it fit better in smaller cases. In system where the power supply is top mounted, having an extra half-inch or so shorter can make a big difference if clearance. The only issue is that when the tray is ejected, the disc is not fully exposed and a portion remains inside. For most people this should not be a problem except for those who are extremely very picky. The drive LED is very small and unobtrusive. The light actually shines through a small pin-sized apperture no bigger than the manual cd eject hole. Burned close to 100 standard DVDs (various brands) and a dozen lightscribe discs without any coasters. Since this is an OEM drive - there's no software included so either download some freeware or purchase burning software. I'm using Nero 10 and Surething CD labeller deluxe lightscribe edition 5. If your drive is not recognized by your system, try downloading the lighscribe system software patch (LSS) from www.lightsribe.com. The latest version 1.18.24.1 seems to recognize this drive without any problems. |

Cons:None
Pros:CheapNo 'coasters' so farSufficient for what I use it forQuiet Comment:
I like Samsung writers because I find them to be much quieter than LG. Haven't tested the write quality but so far, no coasters. I only use this for reading discs and occasionally writing an audio CD for the car. For the price, I can't complain. |

Cons:I couldn't find any.
Pros:Cost Effective. Comment:
If you really need a CD-Rom Drive for your build, this one fits the bill. For me CD-ROM and CD-RW drives have become out-dated, but I put in my build just in case, especially if you do not have another computer with a CD-ROM drive.Nowadays I install the network drivers via a Flash Drive if required. The rest of the drivers can be downloaded from the Internet. But if you are the person who rents DVDs to watch on your computer, this one is a good choice. |

Cons:-tray opening and closing is a bit louder than my Pioneer
Pros:-inexpensive-well built Comment:
Affordable DVD Writer that has Lightscribe ability. Works well and is fairly quiet. I don't like how the tray bezel doesn't sit flush when closed like my old Pioneer, it bulges out a little. |

Samsung SH-222AL 22X DVD Writer SATA Lightscribe OEM
Cons:No included SATA cable
Pros:Works great, fast and quiet Comment:
A fine, affordable, DVD writer. Not much else to say, it doesn't get particularly loud, it doesn't have problems, but it doesn't have an included cable so hopefully you kept your cables from your motherboard box. I've bought several of these drives - my own system and several systems I've built for friends feature them. none have experienced any prolems except when I had an issue with the cable I had, not the drive itself. Drive features a black bezel which is pretty common these days but still is nice to see vs the beige that used to plague the industry. |

i had a pioneer dvdrw in my pc, but i swap this unit to have lightscribe ability, for some reason, the drive is recognized by burning software only if i set sata in ide mode in bios,as soon as in select ahci, the drive is detected in windows 7 64 bit, but i cannot burn anything, since no software can see it as a potential burner.i did not have this issue with the pioneer burner.thankfully i found a solution on the net, installing intel matrix storage driver solved the problem |
