A very standard DVD burner. Reliable and cost effective.It's not the most impressive device out there, but for the price and performance, you can't ask for much more. It gets the job done.

Nowhere is is written in the product's description that both audio ports are disabled and cannot be made to work.It's cheap alright! But in terms of efficiency, I hope for the sake of Samsung this thing burns as fast as it's supposed to... Otherwise, I am thinking of shouting to false publicity and sue someone.I hope that my 1 star review gets posted as is after NCIX's staff review because others need be told that this is a burner only and that no other usual functions are present on this, otherwise more then ordinary, device.

was the cheapest dvd-rw drive available. Would have been nice if it was sata, but no biggie. Most boards still have a single PATA channel, and they rarely go used anymore with allt he hard drives being SATA. May even be a good thing since it leaves more SATA ports free for hard drives.

Got it for $20 bucks on sale, does not come with any software, even thought its 22X burner, i dont think there is any cheap DVD that can meet 22X, so this is no different from a 16X burner.

samsung makes good products, we know that. This unit however did not arrive with the samsung name like in the photo. So Im assuming its the same quality. Would like if it was SATA though

The last piece of an upgrade for a friend's HP. Noticeably quieter than the drive that was in there before, and worked perfectly from the get go. Haven't had a chance to burn with it yet, but don't foresee any problems.

Yes, I know it's not a blu-ray burner, but I couldn't think of any other weaknesses. It does burn very quickly, and I have not made a single coaster (I burned 25 discs yesterday alone). It's quiet, fast, and it runs off the IDE Bus (No point in wasting a SATA port on a device that's still not going to bottleneck the IDE bus). I like it, and I'll buy another one that's exactly the same should I need another DVD burner.

Fast, cool and quiet one-platter design hard drive. Great price when on sale. Got it for a friend who needed, he's very happy with it.

It's cheap and it worksOther than that, it's quiet and relatively free of vibration. However, I haven't checked the burn quality yet. The drive has an IDE interface, which I actually find more convenient because some operating systems require SATA drivers.

Purchased this for a friend's P4 computer when the old Burner fried. Lets see how long this lasts. It's just that any electronics, mainly computers, tend to fry when in close proximity to my friend.

It's Quite and fast and works great. Please not it is a OEM so no software included but i already has purchased an oem samsung drive before and I just reused my software. Good buy.

I really like the ease in which I could install the burner. I slid right in and hooked up. I would recommend this product for anyone with an older machine. Great product for the price.

I use these to replace dvd readers and cd writers on older machines. They are dependable and fast. I actually keep one and use it to install stuff on older machines that don't even have a dvd. Great choice when you don't have sata.

I bought this for my every day machine and IDE is as good as SATA when it come to burner. SO no complain up to now!

Since this drive is the IDE version, it might not be liked as much as the SATA version.In my case I only had 6 sata port on my motherboard and 5 of them were already used so this drive allowed me to have 2 optical drive and still keep my extra SATA port for another SSD in the future instead of a single optical drive and no connector left for the future. The performance for the price is also more then I was expecting, the drive seems almost silent when reading disc but I have yet to burn anything with it to test the writting noise.

it makes higher noise than my old DVD driver, but it works well so far.bought at $22, good for the price.

I picked one of these up on sale as a backup unit. It has an IDE interface, so may not be everone's cup of tea, but most motherboards still carry one IDE channel anyway. Hard to beat the price on sale. Of course, it is an OEM drive, so no screws, no software, only an installation guide. There's plenty of burning software available for download if you don't have what you need already, and for me this wasn't an issue. I just needed basic burning capabilities, and got it. I bought this on sale and have no regrets. It is an ide connection for those that care. I know sata is the way to go now, but if you don't mind the ide cable you can get great deals. It works flawlessly. For a dvd burner you will not notice any performance difference between ide and sata. When it arrived it did not have samsung written on the front which made me feel as though I received the wrong writer, however a quick look online revealed the the face was the same except for samsung not being written and the label on the top of the drive states that it is indeed a samsung product.
