Sans Digital TowerRAID TR4M-B 4 Bay SATA to eSATA Enclosure
Cons:Would be nice if there was an accessible drive locking mechanism. Using the thumb screws to lock the drives down means you have to remove the cover to take them out. Not a big deal though, just didn't use the screws as I don't expect to have to move it and the drives fit fairly snugly without them.
Pros:Flawless installation under Winsows Home Server Comment:
Bought this to cleanly expand my Windows Home Server storage, installed the included PCIe eSata card, slid in the drives, connected two cables and installed the driver off windows update. 15min of flawless setup. Now running with 8T of additional storage due to the drives I populated it with. Happy as a clam with this purchase. |

Good as a JBOD
Comment:
I am using this as a contiguous JBOD. The chassis and cover are good quality. The fan in the rear of the enclosure exhausts a reasonable amount of air and is quite. I believe the air flow will keep four hard drives running cool. I installed the PCIe 1x esata card that came with the TR4M-B, plugged in the esata cable and Windows 7 detected all of the drives. Since I am not running this in a RAID configuration, I did not install the software that came with the hardware. So, I cannot give an opinion on the software or its RAID performance. But, as an enclosure for four separately addressable sata hard drives, I give it five stars. |

Good buy, IF you are informed
Comment:
I bought this product not knowing much about external hard drive stacks. This device operates off of eSata, and uses something called port multipliers to present 4 drives to your operating system over 1 esata connection. This is NOT a hardware raid, and does not do any processesing on its own. This is just a device to put drives outside of your tower, and connect it via eSata. If you buy this device, make sure your motherboard supports eSata with port multiplying, or that you have the ability to add a pci-e 1x card. I bought this to use with a intel atom motherboard (Zotac ION series motherboard) and it did not include port multiplication on the eSata port, and does not have any PCI-e slots, so this did not work. Hoever, I connected it to my Desktop PC and to my Laptop, and it worked perfectly. Make sure you know what you're buying, but it can be a good deal. |

Pros:Easy to install HDs Comment:
I got this to increase my bay numbers, I was running out inside my case. A solid product, I haven't had issues. Easy to install, and if I want to setup RAID I can. |

Sans Digital TowerRAID TR4M-B 4 Bay SATA to eSATA Enclosure
Cons:Documentation is somewhat out of date.
Pros:Great construction, drive slots makes installing drives easy, good compact design. Port multiplier card is a great bonus. Comment:
Bought this 2 weeks ago at $160, it is a nice addition to the Acer easyStore home server I got earlier, I was running out of room with the 4 1TB drives I put into the easyStore home server and this gives me another 4 slots to increase the capacity of my home server. I didn't configure the RAID option as I am using the home server's software file duplication to provide redundancy. |

Sans Digital TowerRAID TR4M-B 4 Bay SATA to eSATA Enclosure
Cons:No apparent weaknesses for my uses
Pros:4 baysQuietCheaper than most other 4 bay devicesFast Comment:
I bought this to add some more storage for media, and it works perfectly.Added 2x 1TB WD Greens to go along with this. Speeds are great, but I have not experimented with the RAID yet. JBOD only. The installation of the drives was also very simple, and well thought out.All in all this was a great way to add some extra storage to your PC. |

Sans Digital TowerRAID TR4M-B 4 Bay SATA to eSATA Enclosure
Cons:- not easy to remove drives especially if all bays are full (would be nice for an eject button). It was also tight.- blue led (for those who hate lights) but I don't mind
Pros:- quick to set up- easy to add drives (no trays needed)- has a fan- free eSATA card Comment:
Quick to set up. Had a issue at first (froze up my computer on first time I started it) but after that no issues. Didn't use RAID yet and didn't use the included eSATA card (a nice bonus). It is hard to remove drives as I found it was tight and when all bays are full, you have to remove the bottom drives to get room to pull the drive you want. So don't expect this to be a box to swap when needed. This is meant more for put set it and forget it kinda of box. |

Sans Digital TowerRAID TR4M-B 4 Bay SATA to eSATA Enclosure
Cons:None, really. When I first connected, my computer wanted to boot from it. However, I just had to go into the bios and set the boot device order back to normal.
Pros:Easy to hookup. Easy to add or remove drives. Durable. Works great. Looks great. Getting a free eSata card is an added bonus. Comment:
I love my TowerRAID! My neighbor came over one night to have a look at it, and he promptly ordered one. I thought there might be some performance issues, but it's faster than the drives that are mounted in the computer case. It's a great little box. |
I bought this a month or so ago, and it arrived DOA. This company was absolutely great about exchanging it, and the second one worked as it was supposed to. I used their software to create a RAID 5 array with 4 2TB hard drives, successfully. However, stupid me, I am using Windows XP 32 bit (still) and didn't realize that it wouldn't recognize a partition that large. So now, I am using them as JBOD, but they are working great. Definitely a good buy, if these continue working fine, I might end up buying an 8-bay unit.
