Sapphire Radeon HD 6970 Dual Fan Edition 880MHZ 2GB 5.5GHZ GDDR5 2xDVI HDMI 2XDP PCI-E Video Card
Cons:This card is huge. Not the latest and greatest technology.
Pros:Very fast for a good priceFairly quiet Comment:
Replacing an old Radeon 5770. Was initially going to buy a new Radeon 7950, but they are still too expensive, and saw this for about $150 less. In all the benchmarks/games I tried it runs almost twice as fast as my old video card and it is quieter, even under full load. However, this card is HUGE. I thought I had a big case (Antec P183), but this card just barely fit. I had to move my hard drives around to give it enough room.If you cannot wait for the eventual price drop on the new Radeons and have a big enough case, I would recommend this card. |
While the dual cooling fans and pipes are a good thing, it makes the card take not just two, but effectively three slots on my board (it partially covers a third slot). I would like to crossfire down the road, but I may not be able due to this limitation. From a hardware perspective, I know this uses a year old architechture, but the 7950/7970 is too much for me price wise. I still would recommend this card for a budget gamer.
