Seagate 500GB 5400RPM 64MB Cache Solid State Hybrid 7MM SATA 2.5in Drive
Cons:slightly expensive
Pros:hybrid speed Comment:
Got this for my old laptop to replace the old running hdd. Must say it is not as fast as I have expected. But if you do not want to spend too much on SSD, the hybrid drive is your only option for now. |

Seagate 500GB 5400RPM 64MB Cache Solid State Hybrid 7MM SATA 2.5in Drive
Cons:-- 8gb ssd portion could be a little larger. I dual boot windows/linux and I feel like it could use some headroom. However, given the price and performance I am getting, not really complaining much.
Pros:-- Nicely packaged and fast delivery with purolator -- Passed the "extensive SMART test" with "healthy" and no errors. -- Noticeably faster boot and some software more responsive -- Virtually silent -- Disk temp haven't gone above 47C under full load -- 7mm height compatible with pretty much every laptop -- Installation was a breeze in my Sony VGN-FW180D. Comment:
This is the perfect drive for people looking for capacity and reliability with faster boot times. Note that you will NOT get pure ssd performance, that being said my computer is noticeably more responsive than before. Big upgrade from my old Samsung HM320JI with 8mb cache. Note: update to new firmware "SM15" right away. To download the update go to "Seagate Download Finder" and look for update d firmware zip. |

Seagate 500GB 5400RPM 64MB Cache Solid State Hybrid 7MM SATA 2.5in Drive
Cons:Slight negative effect on battery life
Pros:Speed, space Comment:
Used this to replace the failing drive in a MacBook Pro 13" Mid 2013 (MacBookPro 7,1). Easy to install, noticeably faster. A impossibly small torx screwdriver is needed to remove the studs from the side of the old drive in this MBP model, but they can be loosened / removed with a good pair of pliers as well. As others have mentioned, I've noticed a sudden and significant decrease in battery life immediately after the upgrade. Having said that, the battery in said system is past 600 cycles and would likely have to be replaced within a year or two in any case. |

Seagate 500GB 5400RPM 64MB Cache Solid State Hybrid 7MM SATA 2.5in Drive
Cons:OEM bare drive - you'll need to provide your own cloning solution
Pros:very fast + reasonably priced = excellent value Comment:
A few months ago I was looking for a portable content consumption device to supplement my desktop computer. I looked at several tablets and Chromebooks before choosing an Acer netbook with Windows 8, it was less expensive than most of the 10" tablets I was considering and compatibility with the applications I want to use is assured. I've been quite pleased with the netbook but performance, while reasonable given the price point, was sluggish. I decided to try speeding it up with a hybrid drive. The results have been spectacular. Subjectively, the machine is faster than professional quad core laptops we have at work - costing 3 times as much. Objectively, my netbook will cold boot to a desktop in 20 seconds which is faster than the Latitudes will wake up from sleep mode. Highly recommended. |

Seagate 500GB 5400RPM 64MB Cache Solid State Hybrid 7MM SATA 2.5in Drive
Cons:none!
Pros:cheap, fast, more space than ssd Comment:
I can say this is definetly faster than a regular hdd and probably very close to ssd without the space limitation, I bought one for my sisters laptop and I'll probably buy another one for my laptop soon! great upgrade and alot cheaper than ssdeven for a desktop I think if you're on a budget you're better with one of these than ssd since you're gonna need another regular hdd for your data anyway! |

Seagate 500GB 5400RPM 64MB Cache Solid State Hybrid 7MM SATA 2.5in Drive
Cons:nothing.
Pros:everything, speed, performance, you name it. Comment:
Why not? $80+Shipping (up to 5X performance.. maybe not really.. But way faster!!!) large space. Recommended highly. Im considering never ordering a non-SSHD or plain HD drive again. :)SSD OR SSHD FTW.I have yet to start installing the 1TB SSHD models .. That will be exciting :) |
Replacing the drive was quite simple however installing the OS took some trial and error as the Windows Install media had trouble with drivers, I'm assuming it was the chipset drivers, to use the new hard drive. In the end I had to mount an external drive with the required chipset drivers on it, then the Installer functioned as expected.Day to day usage has been as expected, I believe it resumes from hibernate somewhat faster than the drive it replaced, but most importantly it doesn't make as much noise as the old drive.
