Seagate Backup Plus 8TB Desktop External Hard Drive USB 3.0
Cons:Slow transfer speeds. Overheating possibly an issue.
Pros:Huge capacity. Fairly compact size. Quiet. Easy installation. Seagate backup software included. |
Worked fine out of the box with no start up issues. It took about 8 hours to put 2TB of data on it and around 22 hours to move 6TB. Contrary to what Seagate says, this drive does not run cool. -The cooling vents are only on the bottom and three sides. They are so tiny that I'm considering enlarging them. During a 6TB data transfer the temp climbed to as high as 129 degrees. (room temp 70 degrees) My S.M.A.R.T hard drive monitor calls anything over 125 degrees critical so I'm a bit concerned. When idle the drive temp is around 116 degrees which is still over the comfortable range. ( My W.D. Elements 4TB external drives both run 100 degrees at idle and about 109 degrees when transferring large files.) The drive has feet only on the large (poorly vented) lower surface. To stand it on it's side would mean having some cooling vents covered. Some kind of fan may be necessary. This review was modfied by poster @ 04-16-15 12:03 PM
