Runs wonderful when it runs. Doesn't run long. Built a laptop or computer for my daughter and following about 2 weeks use started getting lock ups and then when you would restart it wouldn't recognize the drive until you powered off the machine. Getting quite a few S.M.A.R.T. errors just like the other reviewer. Haven't contacted Seagate however but it sounds like it will be a waste of time. |

Price, brand name Tricky Drive label 250Gb but only registered 130Gb. Bought this due to the fact I had applied 1 in the pass. I guess that was prior to they merged with TrashTor (Maxtor). |

Operates well when working. Utilised for a backup drive. Immediately after 3 months when drive started to fill up to half way it began to not read the information on it. Then shortly soon after the error problem it would trigger blue screen and spontaneous reboot. Following lastly acquiring the PC to reboot I reformatted the drive. I could write to the drive but not read from the drive. When trying to read files it would lock up the PC and eventually blue screen. Needless to say it is tomorrows garbage. |

Installation was a snap. Had to reinstall XP, so no joy there. This drive formatted much quicker than the 5 year old 7200 RPM Seagate I just took out. None yet. Wish I could have cloned the old drive over to the new one, but this BTX board only accommodates one drive. I *am* concerned about the heat concern with this Dell 5100c unit. The factory installed video card sits just below the Seagate, and it keeps the drive temperature in between 50 to 53 c. I removed an adjacent PCI slot cover to hopefully permit much more air circulation, and I cleaned the entire unit out too, but the heat is nonetheless too high for my tastes. I don’t see how the old drive survived under those conditions for five years. |

Inexpensive, fairly speedy doesn't install itself This is a superior drive for the cost. The size is overkill for my specific application, but the customer is pleased and that is what counts. |

I've bought 4 of these over the past two years...and all of them are nonetheless running strong. Nice capacity, good speed and very good price. I've had significantly far better luck with these than prior drives (I'm talking about you, WD). Warranty is better too, while I haven't had to deal with consumer service but so I can't provide an opinion there. None so far. |

7200 rpmdependable3gbs sataquiet Only 8mb of CacheNo cables or drivers disc (but it is oem so to be expected)Sea Tools, and Disc Wizard provided by Seagate's internet site are not as excellent as versions supplied for earlier generations of seagate difficult drives. They could be much much more beneficial and total. Disappointed that with the 12th generation drive, Seagate has downgraded to only 8mb of cache. Their 10th generation's had 16mb of cache and each other drive in the 12th generation has 16mb or additional of cache. I would expect the similar amount of cache or far more with a newer generation of a product, not less. |

Great Drive, no problems with sound or performance. 1 of out the 9 drives I ordered was DOA. I was surprised to see how unfriendly Seagate's return policy was.Initially they anticipate you to pay for the return shipping and package the drive to their specifications (inside of solid pieces of foam and an electrostatic bag). They will not accept foam peanuts or newspaper.. terrific.Next they threaten to keep the drive and bill you for the replacement if the returned drive is "in working condition when they obtain it". So at Seagate's "discretion" they can rip you off if they really feel the drive is in working condition.Compare this to Western Digital who sent the replacement drive out 1st (they do demand Credit Card escrow but that's fine with me). Then you can just send the faulty drive back inside the package they sent you. WD's return policy was a great deal more customer friendly.I will not be purchasing a Seagate drive once more unless their policy is changed. I'll stick with Western Digital thanks. |

Using three of these drives in Raid0. Quickly, quiet, and no heat problems. I ordered three and 1 arrived DOA. RMA'd dead drive just fine, but now worried about reliability if 1 in three drives was doa. All three drives have been working excellent in Raid0 for 5+ months. If it wasn't for the first doa drive, I'd give them five stars. |

Had this drive for years never an issue, fast, does the job, but for $10 more for a 1TB drive, makes little sense buying one of these. http://www.ncix.com/products/?sku=37232&vpn=ST31000528AS&manufacture=Seagate |
Wonderful cost, fantastic HD, fairly quiet. It's been operating nicely in the two.five months I've had it.
