2T I propose a new name for Seagate corp...C.F.I. (for catastrophic failure imminent). 90 days following install and I am ordering a replacement drive. Personally, I am not interested in manufacturer warranty or whatever, I want it to work and not have to deal with returns. Immediately after losing 4 of their 1 T drives (bought at the exact same time), I figured they could have cleaned up their act when this drive was included in a kit I bought, so took a opportunity on the brand again. I guess the "shame on me" of "Fool me once..." applies in this case It is genuinely sad to see what the Seagate name has turned into. I ran numerous Seagate SCSI's for years and thought them the cream of the crop. From now on, the only Seagates you will find in my residence are the dead ones that I will hold in my hardware closet to remind myself how badly they burned me. |

None. I purchased a total of six drives over a 4 month period, three of the drives have failed and when I attempted to get them replaced under warrantee, the replacement drive Seagate sent for the first failed drive was defective as well. Two weeks later I'm Still waiting for a replacement drive and I'm waiting for a 2nd replacement drive to be shipped that I ordered a week ago (paying for their ship-initial and return later deal). According to the customer assistance person I spoke to, Seagate has moved their warehouse to Mexico and that's why points don't get taken care of speedily. I would Keep AWAY from Seagate goods. They used to be the tops, but now they are the pits. |

this is a low expense 2tb HD for storing videos. So it works fantastic. It's a seagate.I will obtain an additional drive. OEM. so it may possibly be a bit of a problem for folks that have never applied OEM (no install computer software) but you can download that computer software from the seagate homepage. READ CONS.I myself like seagate. All my old seagate drives are nevertheless operating even tho half are patas (so I dont use them except on test builds) the other people are 5+ year old satas. |

Size and price. 2Tb for less than ๖ is challenging to beat, on the other hand if you start factoring in time to recover information, expense for shipping back returns, the deal is not so sweet. I typically do not write evaluations or feedback but in this case I am challenging pressed not to. I realize it is difficult to make a selection on which hard drive is far more reliable by reading testimonials due to the fact there is always a percentage of failing drives and generally discontent users write additional frequently than happy one particular.Getting mentioned that I came to the conclusion that this distinct seagate drive is total disgrace hence the low value.I purchased five pieces to expand an existing 10 drives NAS. One particular drive showed unwritable and unreadable sectors on initially install. Interestingly this did not set off the Sensible monitoring. Regardless of the drive becoming unreadable Smart reported it as OK. This drive was promptly returned to Newegg (บ shipping cost). The second drive failed inside a few days again with more bad sectors the drive could reallocate. Once again Intelligent did not trip till you perform a Lengthy Intelligent self test which tests each sector on the disk. This disk is going back as well (another ten$ for shipping). I am left questioning how long the remaining three drive are going to last and if I can seriously trust maintaining any information in them.If you choose to attempt your luck I advocate you perform a long Sensible test as you place the drive in service. This can be performed on windows by running the SeaTool from seagate and deciding on the extended test. On Linux/BSD run smartctl -t long /dev/yourdevicename. It requires several hours but it is effectively worth it.Quality manage on these drives is horrible and they are absolutely prone to failure. The price is alluring but as you aspect in cost for returns, the uncertainty about the safety of your information they are totally not worth it.My recommendation: DO NOT Obtain. |

Wow. Right after replacing several servers by consolidating to a ZFS RAIDZ Volume, the electric bill is way down. I under no circumstances notice that these are 5900rpm (Thank you 4GB of RAM and ZFS). Quiet... I can't hear my server any additional. Also, an astounding lack of white noise. I ordered various of these. One particular was DOA and I nevertheless gave it three stars on that assessment as it was promptly RMA'd and replaced by NE. I plan on replacing every thing servers with these guys. If I want additional speed, I'll place and SSD as a secondary ZFS cache. |

I am entertained by some of the evaluations in this item. Folks are certainly posting additional so, since they got a terrible drive, so the overall failure could appear inflated. But what a single wants to recognize is, even with these inflated prices, the actual prices are most most likely nevertheless greater than other people (well, besdies the even additional junkier Hitachi drives.) Hey, don't get me incorrect, I want to obtain Seagate drives. I have old IDE Seagates that are running sturdy till this day. But some thing happened almosta few years ago men and women. Seagate moved it principal manufacturing processes after reincorporating in Ireland. A noticable decline in excellent appeared soon soon after. Some may bear in mind, some may well not, but the 1st pronounced instance of their QA issues came with the Main firmware problems of their ST intros. Did you get 1? If you did you would have never ever forgot. So Seagate has gone down hill, and I have offered them each shot to get my company. I go by way of 100s of drives a year and had they any steady qualit y, I would be all more than it. But they're not. I've had this drive and other folks just up and die out proper, I've had DOAs too many occasions. Do yourself a favor, got to the recertified/Open box section for Newegg drives, guess what you see? All kinds of Seagates, EVEN much less expensive, but do you see any Samsung Spinppoints???? No way baby. Because these are fairly considerably te best relaible HDs you can get with self-assurance it won't just die out of the blue. Take a appear at the overall feedback of all Seagate drives. Are you shocked what you see? That's ideal, just low low consistent scores, Mainly because OF THE POOR General Top quality Manage of Seagate hard drives post middle 2009. Do not think I am a latest purchaser who is spouting a rant since I am Pee'od. I haven't purchased a Seagate drive in almost a year. Properly, possibly 1 or two, and to be sincere, they're still operating, I assume b/c they're off in sell builds and I haven't gotten a get in touch with, but hear me now, I've used them sufficient. I was reading some of the testimonials with people today getting all sorts of diverse opinions of what the concern was, and I decided to add this. YOU WANT a dependable drive? Get Samsung F3-F4, or get WD Black or Green (slower), the Blues tend to be a bit buggy as well. Take it from an individual who knows. |

nicely the price is decent, and is the least expensive drive that will go into Netgear Readynas Pro device which is on their HCL. This isn't especially for this drive in certain but quite considerably all Seagate drives. I purchased two of these drives and three 1tb Seagate drives in January for my Readynas pro pioneer, in less than three months 3 of the 5 drives have failed or had hardware problems. That is a 60% failure rate which appears quite poor for a item. I am not sure exactly where the top quality handle is with this corporation but if an auto manufacturer had a 60% failure rate...they wouldn't be in business any longer. Unfortunately Netgear's Readynas HCL is very strict on what drives you can use(and I had around a lesson using drives not on this list) and either the drives are not being generated any longer, are double the value of the well-liked 2tb models, or is a Seagate. So at the moment you are quite substantially stuck making use of this 2TB Seagate drive unless you are prepared to play Russian roulette with your information. |

most affordable 2TB from recognized brand. warranty is only three years tells me excellent is probably only midrange. If it were rock strong would be 5 years I figure. All the people that say it worked out of the box and died inside 12 hours I'm guessing tried to cram two TB onto it in a single shot devoid of adequate ventilation. It can run cool and then require added cooling to ermain cool it you plan to jam 2TB onto it in one shot. I've got a raidmax case with 7+ fans on it and even in that wind tunnel I'd hesitate to only drag and drop 2TB onto a disk and watch it meltdown attempting to oblige. You wouldn't shoot a rifle 10x per minute for 20 minutes because the barrel would melt on you. The more powerful the tool or disk the a lot more respect and pampering you need to strategy to manage it with. Just my thoughts but I felt they have been worth sharing. |

Affordable With a six sigma manufacturing course of action you would anticipate three.4 defects per million units. This would make receiving several defective drives as most likely as becoming hit by a meteorite. Read the testimonials right here. You'll discover some people today who have ordered several of these and most were defective. Even reports of five out of five defective. One particular client had five out of five defective and then all the replacement 1 were also defective. In my case, the 1st drive was DOA, sent it back and the 2nd a single worked (got lucky that time I guess). This defect rate is entirely unacceptable. Newegg need to inform Seagate that they will quit promoting their goods till they at least start off testing their junk. It is just amazing how a business like this can remain in organization. If you don't care about losing your information and want to save a couple of bucks, go ahead. If you have any brains at all, Remain AWAY!The marketplace will establish the winners and losers and Seagate has now created their reputation as the wor |

Incredibly very good drive. I've owned 8 of these drives for over a year with no issues. Drives are trusted, quickly, and quiet. Ordered 5 a lot more drives, 5 arrived DOA. NewEgg paid to return the drives and received five more drives, all DOA. At present waiting on third batch of drives. No difficulties with packaging, all packaged properly. There appear to be a lot of these drives arriving DOA lately when this model never had issues ahead of. Ordered very same drives from other sources and haven't had these matters.Currious. |

I bought two of these drives and each of them are working perfectly at present. After formatting and making use of them for a even though i've seen greater speeds with these then with my old 500gb 7200 RPM seagate driveThese drives run about 8 degrees cooler at load, and ten cooler at idle then my 1TB drives. All the Negative evaluations folks are leaving for this drive where they sound like they did not even give the drive a likelihood.I didn't obtain 4 of them. This "Click of Death" absolutely everyone keeps speaking about, its absolutely nothing more then the difficult drive going into park after it hasn't been used for a although. It does this to produce less wind resistance on the platters to conserve power. I don't consider it saves substantially executing that but that's apart from the point. That click sound only takes place right after 30 seconds of no activity and won't come about once again till it has activity and then 30 seconds without having it....At present operating these two drives in a Mirror employing a 3ware controller, soon after the raid Initialized its self, i formatted it and copied 1.4TB of information to it with out it missing a beat. Its only 20mb/sec slower then my 4 1TB drives in a Raid ten. Thats fairly good for a 5900rpm drive. |

Size, size and size. Did I mention size? Oh. Cost, as well. I use this drive in an external eSATA dock. This indicates that I can really feel it and hear it. It's a bit noisy -- not louder than my PSU fan, tho -- and it gets incredibly hot. I'm talking "it can burn you" hot. It's hotter than my other 500gb and lower drives. If I were to redesign the drive, I'd place a big heatsink on it. The drive is surprisingly heavy. Whilst I don't assume most people would have a difficulty with that, I assume it could be a difficulty for installation in inexpensive cases. |

I Have three of these running in a WHS v1 as information drives and I have had great outcomes with them. I also have had on in a video editing rig for a excellent while as the storage drive and it has also performed flawlessly. Lot of storage for the ๕ and free shipping when on unique. Wish they were a tiny thinner like some of the newer drives with much less platers to enable with airflow. I believe numerous bad critiques and DOA of these drives are triggered by improper packaging. Newegg appears to be improving in this respect, but always test the drive thoroughly if it looks like if had a tough time finding to you. I have 2 a lot more drive spaces in my WHS and will most likely fill them with a pair of these...Don't you just like Drive Extender. |

No noticeable lags or sounds. Low cost. Newegg sent it to my door by next day. Hasn't failed yet on non-RAID setting. (I really haven't had a failed one beneath 3 years of use). Not 7200rpm. Not SATA III. 7200rpm+SATA III went on sale the day following I purchased this. Not quick sufficient to run OS on it (though it may be not as noticeable compared to 7200rpm, it would be when compared to SSD)These who have clicking sound really should verify their connectivity and power. Price and size. Like other recent buyers I've had trouble with these drives. Purchased 4 drives. Following two days one started clicking. Showed up in Windows as three.six Gb rather of 2 Tb. Returned for RMA. A handful of days later a 2nd drive started displaying Intelligent errors. As well late for RMA, but Newegg did make some concessions. Searching at reviews it appears all makers have a high rate of defects on their least high-priced two Tb drives. Be prepared to shed time and income with an RMA or two before you get some very good drives.
