Seagate Barracuda LP 2TB 3.5" SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive -Bare Drive
Cons:
5900 rpm.
Pros: Great Price vs Storage, Low Power Comment:
Great drive for storage. I have 3 of them now for Media Storage (one from 4 months ago and 2 from last week sale). Only problem I encountered with them is when initially loading videos on it and while seeking, the video may lag a bit. They also run 5C cooler than my older 7200.11 1.5tg drives. |

Seagate Barracuda LP 2TB 3.5" SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive -Bare Drive
Cons:
none
Pros: price, size (2tb), GREEN Comment:
This drive is amazing. A 2TB drive at this price is a steal, but nowadays storage is all so cheap. No failures yet, no problems to speak of. Very happy with it, and if you get one for yourself (which I suggest), you should be happy too! |

Seagate Barracuda LP 2TB 3.5" SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive -Bare Drive
Cons:
Not a speed demon, nor is intended to be
Pros: Lots of storage in a compact form (equiv to a stack of 80 BD-R SLs)PriceQuietNo lost data yet... Comment:
HD Tune most accurate setting, 64KB read test whole drive: 88.5MB/sec average read speedhttp://img513.imageshack.us/img513/8663/seagate2000gbmostaccura.pngI was planning to do the write test but I would've had to remove the partition that I spent many hours slow-formatting.I ordered one of these four months ago and have added another in the past couple days. Both are somewhat disconcertingly silent. I'm used to the days of listening to some reassuring crunching to know my PC is doing something, but I could swap files around on this all day and never hear it above my (relatively quiet) fans. This'll take some more getting used to! :)Great storage drive so far. I certainly wouldn't use it as a main drive though. |

Seagate Barracuda LP 2TB 3.5" SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive -Bare Drive
Cons:
- It's a Seagate; know your risk
Pros: - Low price (on sale)- Lots of space Comment:
I bought this for my brother as extra storage (not a primary drive). So far no problems, but you have to be wary with Seagate's quality control and customer service. Others have had problems though if you look at the reviews. |

Seagate Barracuda LP 2TB 3.5" SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive -Bare Drive
Cons:
slow speeds
Pros: quiet operation Comment:
I have a pair of these in raid 1 on my motherboard. I am using them as storage to my ssd. I have had my system running for a couple weeks and so far their operation as been almost silent. My only problem as been some stuttering on video playback when handling some really large files. I have been weary of Segate due to past problems but until i have a drive failure i am fairly satisfied with their performance so far. |

Seagate Barracuda LP 2TB 3.5" SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive -Bare Drive
Cons:
My older Seagate drives are all still working fine, but of course I have heard about the firmware issues and high rate of return.
Pros: Good price (on sale) for storage drives.I got 3 and all are set up and working fine over the last two weeks. Comment:
I have a bunch of WD EADs drives of 1, 2T, and all are showing the high rate of head parking in Linux. I'm now using those for offline backup and the Seagates for primary use.So far so good, but I'll just have to see how the Seagates work out over the 3 year warranty and expected use period.Since they are working well and smart results are fine, I have to score them high so far. It would be better to wait much longer before writing a review, but then the review isn't likely to help anyone. |

Seagate Barracuda LP 2TB 3.5" SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive -Bare Drive
Cons:

Pros: Awesome priceLow noiseGood warranty Comment:
Bought a few of these, currently using them in a HTPC for storage. I haven't had a single problem with these hard drives so far. They're quiet, which is a big plus for a HTPC. The green rating should mean their power consumption is good. Not the fastest drives on the market but that's not too important for media playback. Overall very happy with the price and the performance so far. Would definitely recommend. |

Cons:
None so far.
Pros: Green Drive. 5900RPM with ~7200RPM like performances. Comment:
Great product, low noise, best performances I seen for a green drive. Very low cost per GB. Ideal solution for storage drives and home servers. Not recommended for raid partitions. Great warranty! |

Seagate Barracuda LP 2TB 3.5" SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive -Bare Drive
Cons:
Only one failure so far
Pros: Quite good read/write speed Comment:
I bought 4 of these over the last year. All developed the clicking noise that some call it "the noise of death".Until now, I have RMA-ed only one (Seagate sent me a different certified repaired drive without pestering me with questions). I had to get an error code through Seagate Tools though in order for the RMA to be approved. After this issue, I switched to WD Green (lower speed, but safer). The rest of the Seagate drives are running well so far, but I chose not to trust them with my important data after reading the reviews here. I'll probably sell them to offset other upgrades :D |

Seagate Barracuda LP 2TB 3.5" SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive -Bare Drive
Cons:
Runs hot and loud spindle noise, could be due to being a bad drive
Pros: Price, easy setup Comment:
I got this drive to put into a Nexstar CX enclosure. The drive was detected by Windows over esata and usb, and I was able to set it up and format it with no problems. However I could not write any files to the disk. Windows complained of IO errors, and locked up the system. I believe that the drive was DOA. HD Tune detected the drive had failed and had a high number of reallocated sectors. Some quick research has showed that there is a high failure rate of these cheaper 2TB drives, from Seagate and WD, so it might be hit and miss in getting one that works. At least I got it on sale.On the drives very first power up, it made A LOT of noise, clicking and popping and thrashing. I'm assuming that is when the damage was done. |

Seagate Barracuda LP 2TB 3.5" SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive -Bare Drive
Cons:
-Made a scary noise at first start up.
Pros: -Decent write speeds.-Low cost. Comment:
I actually like this drive better then the Caviar Greens. The writer speed averages around 80-90mb for me and the Caviar Green will be around 60mb. Maybe my Green drive is a dud but I don't think so. Could be a controller conflict too. Oh well. |

Cons:
Only 5900 RPM but that doesn't matter if the drive is being used for storage.
Pros: Very quiet.Great $ per GB ratio.Perfect for the average user that's going to be storing lots of video files without spending a lot of money.3 year warranty. Comment:
I have used Seagate hard drives for years because of their superior quality and this drive is no exception. This drive is very quiet. It has a 3 year warranty. |

Cons:
Not fast.
Pros: it does its job. Comment:
Quiet and unassuming. Good. The HDD is suppose to be boring and quiet. The last component in your system that you want to act like a diva. Ran 2 of these drives for 5 months now and they are still just as boring and non-attention seeking as the day I got them. (Knock on wood) |

Seagate Barracuda LP 2TB 3.5" SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive -Bare Drive
Cons:
None so far.. Let's see if the nightmare 7200.11 series is finally over. I'll post again in a month for the results
Pros: Rather quiet. It doesn't use that much power, either. Freakin' awesome deal (thanks to bumping into a Shell Shocker). Comment:
Why on earth would you buy 8 of these and put them in a JBOD array? I would *NEVER* trust 16TB worth of data on a RAID0 or a JBOD.At least do a RAID5 or 6. That way if one does die, you're not wanting to pound your head into the wall or think about having a mega panic attack. |

do not buy this drive if you need reliability
Comment:
bought one 3months ago, finally got around to installing it, and transfering over some movies. click, click, click is what i heard fromthe next room where my pc is. took forever longer than it should have to transfer the files. rma'd it with seagate, paid extra to get the new one fast, it's doing the same thing. click click click. get hitachi or wd |

No complaints
Comment:
I've bought three of these drives for my media server. Have been streaming up to 1080p content, using for archival, backup, and more with no complaints whatsoever. Fast, super quiet drives which seem to run surprisingly cool. |

OK performance, excellent heat properties
Comment:
I have three of these in an external enclosure that used to contain 500GB drives of the type designed for DVRs and other consumer electronics (Seagate Pipeline). These have been in use for about two months with no problems. Compared to the older Pipeline drives, these run at lower temperatures, though are also slightly noisier. Performance is noticably better in normal use as well, though does not match the performance of enterprise-level 7200RPM drives. For fun I tried using one of these in a media player as well, with poor results, apparently due to slow startup. I would not hesitate to recommend these in any situation where maximum performance is not a requirement, but where low energy consumption and low heat generation and important, such as a small or mid-sized business server and most normal people's desktops. Would probably avoid them in any server that's getting hit continuously by a large number of users. |

Seagate Barracuda LP 2TB 3.5" SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive -Bare Drive
Cons:
Reliability/Noise
Pros: Speed, power, value Comment:
My drive has developed the "clicking noise of death" after a few weeks of very light operation. I have since learned this is common, with other people reporting four out of four drives purchased develop this problem, and need to be returned. While it was working, it was great, fast transfer speed and fairly quiet for a low power drive. |

Pros:Good quality and very good reviews Comment:
I needed some large drives for my NAS and, while you pay a bit of premium for 2TB's, these work great for me. Online reviews show good price vs. performance so I don't expect any problems.4 TB's in two drive bays - woo-hoo! |

THIS IS THE SECOND FAULTY DRIVE
Comment:
I've always thought Seagate was the top of the line. I'm over that. I won't bother with this company again for a long time. I can't trust my data to this second-rate hardware. Too bad - Seagate of course can't 'do' anything about the shipping charges. So long. |

Pretty sure this is not an old drive
Comment:
This is a 2TB drive so I don't think it is that old. I believe it is 5900 RPM because of a new trend in hard drives that balance high performance with power efficiency. I actually haven't bought this drive in particular but I assume the seek times are comparable to a 7200 RPM drive while using less power. |
Richard Rating: Review Date: 11/26/09 |
Older Drive!
Comment:
This is a 5900 RPM drive in case you did not notice, although it does not say it's refurbished or out of warranty, if you put it on as a server, you may find it a bit slow responding, especially if you have a fast machine operating at 3 GHz like mine. I have gotten rid of all my old 5900 rpm drives on that account. |

Just Perfect
Comment:
I just got this drive a few days ago for the computer i'm making. it's been up and running for a few days and i can't hear it a bit. Seagate is always who you should trust with your hard drives and once you use one you'll know no other quality like this ever again. |
Got one of these for a user to store movies on. There were several firmware issues that Seagate releases successive updates for. There was another issue whereby the firmware updater did not recognize the drive properly and I had to manually enter in the command line commands to flash the firmware...not very cool.Otherwise the drive works as expected.Edit: Be sure to check the Seagate website and ensure you have the latest firmware =).
