Comment:
Have three of these in a RAID5 for a backup server. They went in with out a hitch, run rapidly, quiet, and cool, and have not had a challenge in the five months I have had them. Pretty costly, but worth it if you have lots of photographs and videos to retailer. Be cautious about failures, even though. Losing two TB of data at as soon as is a significant hit. SATA 6. Gb/s interface seems kinda pointless to me. The advantages of this quicker interface on a normal tough disk drive (non-SSD) are smaller, if any. You would require a transfer rate of 300 megabytes/sec to exceed even the old SATA 3 Gb/s spec (taking into account 8bቦb encoding), and 7200 RPM drives generally don't exceed 150.

I have two of these drives in a P67 mb, raid on the intel controller. ATTO benchmarks the raid performance at or far better than single SSD speeeds, specifically in small file reads and writes. The drives are far more much more quiet than my old raptor setup. None - definitely great drives. I was not able to totally utilize the drive space, but that's not the drives fault. It's too bad this drive doesn't come in a 1tb size. I didn't understand until configuring the raid that the intel controller on the P67 chipset only supports a raid size up to 2tb, as a result half the drive space is wasted. I have the write-back cache enabled from the Intel Rapid Storage application, and it substantially improved performance.

Rapid and quiet. Working incredibly nicely in software program RAID Ɣ drives). My access pattern for the array is simultaneous sequential reading and writing, ordinarily the array is restricted by how quick it can write, and the drive contributes to performance by how much quicker it can sustain reads in among the writes. This is a bit weird as a benchmark but it's my actual load, which is why I care about it. For some cause I can only guess at, these drives are brilliant at this - handily beating a number of other arrays I have (including one with 6 RE-three drives that has maximum read and write speeds pretty much twice the 4xXT array). So I'm shopping for much more of these. Hope they hold up in the long run, considering that I'll be beating the tar out of them. I commonly like Western Digital drives, and I've had great luck with those. But for these I'll make an exception. No cons that I'm aware of at this point. My testing involves files ranging from about 1.2GB to 350GB and my actual use entails files as considerably as 4TB. I use the ext4 filesystem, and the RAID is striped in 512K chunks. The machine is dual Xeon 5650 and the controller is ICH10R.

Rapidly, lots of storage and quiet Apart from the expense - none. I am working with a pair of these in a Synology DS210+ NAS operating Raid 1 that has a smaller rear fan. The drives are running between 43C 鲭F) to 49C 鲸F) warm but not overly so.

Extremely rapidly (noticeable difference from a prior SATA II Seagate Drive). I paired this drive with an SSD. Will happily report the speed variance when I get the SSD hooked up. (purchased the wrong connector for it) None

High capacity, 6 g/s Drive appears to be developing problems. Not positive if it is the drive or the drivers, but lengthy copy durations in particular with significant files seems to trigger a crash. Casper reports drive fault. Seagate does not appropriately support their goods. Case in point: Seagate's Seatools, the diagnostic software program, will not run any tests on this drive. From what I can locate from their community forum, Seatools only works below 32 bit Windows. They are falling far behind the technology curve. Take into account Western Digital.

Bought 6 drives to feed my new Thecus 7700+. All 7 arrived functional. There was a minor concern with packaging, five sides covered nicely in foam, 1 side (of four drives) exposed to the bottom of the shipping box with NO protection. Rare for Newegg to slip up on packaging, guess I was (un)lucky. Been running 6 drives in Raid 6 for four+ weeks now 24ǝ with no troubles. No noticeable temp troubles, the Thecus has a respectable dual fan program, however it seldom spins up to noticeable levels. One drive is a bit noisy. Some minor clicking and audible head movement. I'm keeping an eye on that one. Not certain if its really a dilemma but the other 5 are dead quiet. The one is seriously not any louder than some older drives I had prior to, its just ... not like the others. I already have a spare prepared in case I have to RMA. So far its keeping up just fine. Other than the 1 noisy drive I am extremely satisfied so far. I can only give four stars given that 1 drive. Possibly it will be ok, but with 8TB of information I would have felt a lot much better if they all ran the similar. The shipping good quality was a Newegg issue and I can't fault Seagate for that. It appears to have not mattered anyway. It would be challenging to claim the shipping triggered the one drive concern. At this time I am ordering 2 a lot more drives so I can migrate to 10TB and still have spares. For the price, these are the best alternative I see proper now, everything more affordable seems questionable for large raids.

Nicely sikk sukka, these drives appear awesome, and the transfer rates are fairly fast, i am pleased. But where can i uncover the updated frimware? If anybody has set these drives up in a raid array, please let me know how you did it, i set them in an array,(raid ) and it worked fine, except i couldn't do a fresh windows 7 install as it couldn't discover the drive. i installed the newest drivers in the course of the install, and had to delete the raid array to get the drives to post. one additional bummer is the drives post in bios and device manager and i cant find them both even soon after a format. :( i have an evga x58 tri sli mobo, and there assistance staff says there demands to be a bios update or a firmware update before i can do this! super bummer dude! :(

Was slightly disappointed with I had failures but out of the 20 drives I ordered this was expected to have a couple of failures. The ones that were fine are humming along Excellent in my Areca 1880ix Raid6 setup all at 6GB/s SATA.

The cause why I bought this drive was simply due to the fact my old drive was failing and I required to move my OS to a new drive. I was looking for a drive with a lot of space and extremely excellent efficiency. I didn't have a lot of funds to spend, so I did my analysis on NewEgg and this is what I identified.1.) For the dollars you spend and the quantity of space that you get, purchasing this drive is incredibly worth it.two.) For the money you invest and the performance that you get, purchasing this drive is ok if you can't discover anything far better.three.) This drive has not given me any issues what so ever (SO FAR).4.) I connected the drive with my SATA cable to the motherboard and BIOS recognized it correct away.At the end of the day, I have learned really a lot about the various Hard Drive technologies and what to actually look for when I'm purchasing one. I can honestly say, even although I created a couple of poor selections to start with, I am very pleased with this drives performance. 1.) 64MB cache size does not do a lot unless you're continually Writing stuff.2.) 6. Gb/s speed is not worth it. Theoretically it really should be able to go that quickly, but physically the way motherboards are built currently and how bus lines operate and chipsets are produced, and so on; it cannot reach a speed anywhere near 6. GB/s. You would be lucky if you even get 3. Gb/s.If the distinction in price among two drives is a lot and it is simply because one is 3. Gb/s and the other 6. Gb/s, then do your self a favor and go with the 3. Gb/s drive. Unfortunately, prior to I bought this drive, I did not rather comprehend fully what produced a Challenging Drive perform extremely well. Only soon after I had purchased it, did I comprehend that if you want a fast hard drive for a home computer then you ought to get 1 with a high RPM.Cache size does not matter as substantially as it utilised to (unless you're utilizing this drive for a server). One of the causes why I bought this drive was mainly because the 64MB cache size genuinely appealed to me and I thought that it was going to boost my drive performance by a margin. On the other hand, I did not know that right after a particular quantity, say 32MB, it does not really matter what your cache size is.Essentially, if you want a drive with quicker Read speeds, go with a higher RPM drive.

Outstanding drive, quick, and lots of space! none To the folks disappointed by the five.9 Windows Expertise Index - don't believe anything of it. The WEI takes into account the kind of drive you are running (traditional platter based vs solid state drive), among other things such as random access time, etc.I had 4 of these in RAID0 and still received a five.9 despite the obvious speed enhance. So take the WEI score with a grain of salt - it truly isn't a lot of an indication of, properly, anything.

Great SATAIII drive. Moderate speed and really running. None. A little slow on the performance rating but I new this going in. I purchased my very first drive about a year ago and have had no problems. I just recently bought one more just like it and had a RMA. The drive had some low level logic function but would not install. Newegg made a quickly RMA and I received the new drive in just a few days and installed it with a little manual intervention. Most RMA's reported on this drive are really about not becoming DOA, but about Windows 7 64 bit not totally installing it. Your BIOS will see it, but windows will not totally install. Go to start. Sort diskmgmt.msc and hit enter. Windows will show your 1st challenging drive (usually drive ). Appear for Drive 1. Activate the partition by appropriate clicking on drive 1. Click in the appropriate side region where you see it as unassigned. Select easy partition and follow the wizard and you will have windows assign a drive letter. That's it! I can't tell you how many drives Seagate gets back due to people today not knowing how to install a second drive. This is a very good drive!

Very quiet and run cooler than my older Seagate drives. Of course, plenty of storage room and really quickly. The 6Gb/sec drives were a lot more pricey than the 3Gb/sec drives but it appears to have been worth the dollars. Just make sure your motherboard supports the quicker 6Bd/sec SATA III interface prior to plunking down the big bucks.
