Really rapidly: HDTach results 150MB/s to 70MB/s (outer to inner) which is about twice the speed of the preceding Barracuda 500GB models they replaced in a nForce4 RAID-1 mirror. I can't hear them more than the workplace background noise so call them quiet. Most importantly no glitches in speed trace. None - you anticipate to spend much more for this class of drive. I got two of those to replace a mirror of 2xBarracuda 500GBs in our Windows Server 2003 internal Net Server which got broken by a terrible Smartpower PSU - the TVS (Transient Voltage Supressor) chips were burned by voltage ripple & spikes, 1 was nevertheless alive so I managed to rescue the information. These drives had always shown two or three big downward spikes on a HDTach scan which was evident only when mirrored. The new Constellations show a smooth transition from 150MB/s to 70MB/s possibly confirming the claims that they are in a position to withstand minor vibrations from neighboring drives through head positioning; at least it confirms that the nForce4 RAID was not to blame. I'm quite impressed. |

Quieter than my Seagate Barracuda ES ST3750640NS 750GB hdd from 2007 ( ST3750640NS ). I had to get rubber mounts for that drive and stick it in a three.five" bay. The Constellation vibrates significantly less whether or not its in search of or writing. Expense that comes with enterprise level hardware. I'll try to update on this drive's reliability as time goes on. Initial surface verify with Win7 scandisk shows no bad sectors. |

These drives are great, we ordered an Equallogic PS600E with 16 of these drives in it, ordered 30 far more of them from New Egg to upgrade our older SANs with them and they are rock solid!! No Cons!! |

Quiet. Priced nicely. Hopefully Seagate name. The eSata connection tab broke when I was pushing the drive rack back into location. Metal prongs all bent up at 45degree angle. In no way had this issue with any other drive and I am not a terribly rough individual. Bent pins down and electrical taped cable in place as I required drive and it has worked flawlessly because. Not saying. Just saying. |

quiet, standard speed Seemed like a superior drive, until the MBB failed, If the drive fails escp the master boot block, then the drive is no superior, Zero very good, and to pay added.... I am not happy I installed the drive Oct 2, 2010. Windows 7, and so on, Jan 31, 2011 it failed to boot. I too use acronis, and was able to get up with a Windows repair which put the boot block on my d: drive, but still had to use the image disk. According to my Acronis info I lost about 1ቦth of a gig, or 100mb, including crash dump. Wish I could tell far more, but I now require to get this drive out of my program, make a backup image and figure out what would be a reliable 1 gb HD.I can only say I will not trust Seagate's ST3100524ns drive line. I wonder if these are for raid systems exactly where a failure is.... |
Quiet, Higher Excellent Cost, but you get what you spend for. Have these in a RAID 1 array. Kinda messed with my barracuda a wee bit also considerably, so I wanted toed to get one thing that's gonna final.
