Comment:
It "just functions". I've purchased a number of versions of WD drives in the past, considering they were wonderful for the income (mostly green series), but lately I've been burned by *several* purchases of many drives (one buy two of 4 had been DOA, an additional three of eight had been DOA, and two replacements have been DOA). I was devastated. Replaced all with these Seagates and all is nicely. No failures. No dead drives. Most went into two QNAP NAS eight-bay devices, some into desktops. Can't say enough great about them. Look quiet. Run effectively. No errors. Reasonably higher value. But when you uncover that there are "strange incompatibilities" with several devices that don't amount to a dead drive (and hence can't be replaced), the somewhat higher expense is quickly justifiable. Don't discount how significantly it's worth to have one thing that "just operates".

Rapidly & quiet - spins up faster and seeks are quieter than the WD2003FYYS. Otherwise performance seems comparable. Can't get energy decision low speed idle mode to perform - perhaps an SAS only alternative? If that is the case I and had I known, I would have purchased the SAS version. My adaptec controller does not recognize a low rpm mode on this drive. I upgraded from six 1tb ES.two drives in a RAID 5 array to four of these. I have had good luck with each seagate and WD drives in the previous and got these for the low RPM idle_c which I can't uncover. They are connected to an adaptec 5805.

Quick, 2TB space, 5 year warranty These are NOT QUIET, they have a high pitch whine, all out of the three have this very same incredibly annoying whine, I have not heard this sort of whine going back 11 years to the initial fluid bearing drives. For closet server, OK, for desktop workstation, no way!

The price tag but it seem to function! I was concerned seeing others comment these drives have a higher pitch whine, but the one particular i have doesn't, so far appears to be what you would count on from a Sata II three/GB drive. As other individuals talked about the co$t. I honestly have attempted most other drives WD, IBM, Hitachi, all other 2TB drives and all either came DOA, or failed shortly following, even the other 2TB Seagate that is less costly failed over time. Frequent symptoms for all are appear to be a clicking sound then sooner or later the drives would disappear. The Hitachi was the worse couldn't enable write back cache on drive without having "Data corruption for the duration of copy method should shut down now". So far this drive i have create back enabled and all is fine.

quiet and cooler them my other Seagate drives. lots of media and timeout errors in my areca 1220 raid five. I got these to replace some AS drives i had as seagate will not support them in a raid when they fail. these NS drives have the similar complications the AS series does with excessive media errors and timeouts. 1 Drive lasted over amonth with those errors before it just fails and drops from raid the other could not even rebuild just before it fails.

Reasonably quietHigh CapacityPretty Rapidly So far 4 drives and 2 failures... 1 failed after two days and the other arrived DOA. I ordered two of these to replace the WD drives in a failing raid 1 array. Right after rebuilding the array the initially one failed following two days. The replacement drive from NewEgg was DOA. So far so good with the second replacement pretty much a week and counting. As often NewEgg's support was wonderful.Note: I saw absolutely nothing wrong with the packaging and do not attribute the failures to poor packing.

Have a 6 of these in my Pioneer Pro server - world-class, enterprise quality drives so I have no worries about reliability but certainly not cheap!
