Seagate Expansion 3TB 3.5IN USB3.0 Desktop External Hard Drive - Black
Cons:Needs to connect both usb and power cable
Pros:Cheap storage Comment:
Bought both WD MyBook and Seagate Expansion. Preferred the WD design, though the Seagate one is little smaller. Don't buy over $100. I bought both at $99 when there's a real sale. |

Seagate Expansion 3TB 3.5IN USB3.0 Desktop External Hard Drive - Black
Cons:Died after 66 hours!
Pros:Cheap Comment:
I bought two of this HDD. One of them died after 2 months. It was only used for about 66 hours! It's the first time I encountered such a short life HDD! I will never buy products of Seagate again! |

Seagate Expansion 3TB 3.5IN USB3.0 Desktop External Hard Drive - Black
Cons:slow drive speed
Pros:decent looking backup drive, simple look Comment:
very simple connection, quiet and easy to use. i didnt bother with the on board seagate program, i just drag and drop what ever i needed to save/changed from my previous stuff in the drive. 3tb is huge. probably i can stick with it and not fill it up within these few months |

Seagate Expansion 3TB 3.5IN USB3.0 Desktop External Hard Drive - Black
Cons:Only 1 year warranty.
Pros:Cheap when on sale. USB 3.0 Comment:
For 100 bucks (+$1 eco fee)and Free shipping, it's hard to resist !When plugged in, the drive is recognized right away (with Windows 7 64-bit) and shows available space as 2.7 Tb. It also contains a small app that lets you register the drive with Seagate for the warranty. Some real-life files transfers show a speed of ~50-65 Mbps, which is consistent with what I usually get with my USB3 plugin card. The drive runs VERY silently, one wouldn't know it's busy writing if not for the blue LED light on top. I've read some complaints about heat but my drive doesn't heat up any more than other drives I have. The enclosure has punched out holes on the bottom and the back to help cooling.I'm not sure how effective it is because heat rises, but at least it would allow some air flow over the hdd inside. As noted, this item has only 1-yr warranty, but I've never had problems with Seagate drives in the past. So, knocking on wood and hoping my luck will continue. This review was modfied by poster @ 06-20-14 12:50 PM |

Seagate Expansion 3TB 3.5IN USB3.0 Desktop External Hard Drive - Black
Cons:None that I can see so far
Pros:USB3.03TBSimple Design Comment:
I did buy this at the $129 price and haven't regretted it. The USB3.0 speeds are great, the drive makes virtually no noise for me and I use it for my primary storage for my RAW files. Im even thinking of picking up another one to attach to my WD MyCloud too as that has a USB3.0 port for expandibility |

Pros:does its job Comment:
the USB connection is very poor have found even the slightest movement will cause the drive to disconnect they should have stayed with standard USB connection on both ends. |

Seagate Expansion 3TB 3.5IN USB3.0 Desktop External Hard Drive - Black
Cons:Short cables.Hibernation/sleep issues
Pros:Large Capacity.Small size.Very Quiet. Comment:
If it ever goes on a better sale I'd buy it again. 3TB at that price AND USB 3.0. It fits nicely on my table and takes up less space than my mouse pad.The short cable isn't much of a problem if your workspace is stationary, or buy a new cable. The power cable is flimsy though. Also, Hibernation and sleep are an issue for me. If it's still plugged it, it may sometimes wake up my laptop. Unplugging it and replugging it into the same slot afterwards may not respond. I had to plug it into a different port to reset the connection.Overall, its a great purchase for my music and photoshop files[GB images]. Can't wait for a larger capacity. |

Seagate Expansion 3TB 3.5IN USB3.0 Desktop External Hard Drive - Black
Cons:design is a nit boxy and plain
Pros:Plug and play Comment:
Plug and play, seems to work okay, parents using it to back up pictures. My only complaint is the design is plain and boxy, just one plain old blue light on top to show it's working. If you want something with a bit of storage then go for it, just hide from sight :D |

Seagate Expansion 3TB 3.5IN USB3.0 Desktop External Hard Drive - Black
Cons:case finicky to open
Pros:good drive, good price Comment:
Bought 2 of these on Boxing Day for my NAS. Cheaper to get these than the bare drives (go figure). Tricky to crack open the case (see youtube vids). Had 3TB Barracuda drives, so all is good. Put the old 1TB drives in the cases to use as general backup drives. |

Seagate Expansion 3TB 3.5IN USB3.0 Desktop External Hard Drive - Black
Cons:None
Pros:Nice design and easy to use. No screws on case to open case, only 4 screws inside for the hard drive. Comment:
I bought this on a black Friday sale for $99, nice looking item, I removed the 3TB Seagate 3.5 HDD to add to my Shuttle OmniNas, and will keep the enclosure for other drives. Case was fairly easy to take apart just keep in mind it is all via clips no screws on the case but has some inside for the drive. Best to watch a Youtube how to, to take apart. What can i say it is a seagate = good product. |

Cons:short warranty period
Pros:Large drive, performs as expected Comment:
Picked this up when it dropped to $99 to fill out my Raspberry Pi storage system. Has performed admirably. The one year warranty doesn't make sense to me since most hard drives should be MUCH more robust than to last 1 year. |

Seagate Expansion 3TB 3.5IN USB3.0 Desktop External Hard Drive - Black
Cons:SlowPossibly a Shingled Write drive
Pros:QuietCheapUSB3.0 Comment:
This drive can do about 65MB/s for a while, but after a certain amount of time of transferring files, it will heat up and slow to a crawl of 15MB/s.I think this may be due to the fact this drive uses shingled writes (google it), which allows for higher densities, but slower writes when the drive starts to fill up.I bought this for backing up photos and it takes roughly 16hrs to backup 2.6TB of them. And yes, this is over USB3.0 |

Seagate Expansion 3TB 3.5IN USB3.0 Desktop External Hard Drive - Black
Cons:Runs too hot! The 7200.14 really needs some active cooling!
Pros:Great price! Comment:
The enclosure would work fine for a slower drive, the the 7200.14 is a 1GB per platter beast! And it really needs some active cooling, easily unsnapped the enclosure and installed the bare drive into my desktop. From my understanding Seagate isn't producing Barracudas anymore, its more of the same only slightly faster and no firmware updates, altho its a little confusing since its firmware is CC45. In the enclosure for the first few minutes its pretty fast, a few minutes later slower and slower, I'm guessing due to heat issues, easily 70+ degrees Celsius. After moving a couple hundred gigs of data, but never gets over 40 in my PC. Slightly cheaper than a bare drive and even the warranty isn't voided, since there is not void warranty stickers, and it just unsnaps quite easily, go figure.... |
Bought 3 of them for a server. The case is hard to open but I cracked them open with thin cards. The internal drives are still covered by Seagate warranty according to their webpage. I reused the enclosures to sell previous drives to friends m a low price.
