Seagate FreeAgent Desk 500GB 3.5" External Hard Drive
Cons:
System sometimes doesn't recognize drive
Pros: Easy to useLooks niceQuiet5 year Seagate warranty Comment:
I love this drive but it can be annoying how it sometimes isn't recognized by my computer. The only solution that I remember at the moment is to re-install its software.Other than that problem, this is a very good product. Seagate's 5 year warranty makes me feel confident about using it. |

Seagate FreeAgent Desk 500GB 3.5" External Hard Drive
Cons:Unable to turn off the back-up and syncronize features.
Pros:Great for Storage Drive Comment:
The product is great product. I bought mine back in 09/2008 used to back-up my pictures and important documents for my desktop. I had no problems using it for what I needed it for. Seemed to have quick response time with my file transfers. I only every used it as a storage drive nothing else but works great. |

Seagate FreeAgent Desk 500GB 3.5" External Hard Drive
Cons:Pre-loaded software on it stinks. No way to disable back-up and synchronize features.
Pros:Loads of space, very quite, cool looking light on front, slim and nice design. Small and compact. (Ideal for any office, household, etc.) Comment:
This was a very great product from Seagate. I have always been a Seagate user and have always been satisfied with thier products, But the only thing I didn't like about this product was the pre-loaded back-up and synchronize software. There was no way to turn off the back-up and syncronize features, and so I had to format the drive just to use as storage. But on the other hand, it was a great product that met ALL of my needs very well, for all I needed to use it for was to store ALL of my iTunes movies and songs. Again it is a very nicely done product from Seagate. I recommend Seagate to anybody who wants a good, well-made, trustworthy, reliable, etc. product. |

Seagate FreeAgent Desk 500GB 3.5" External Hard Drive
Cons:- A bit overpriced- No power switch
Pros:- Excellent power management- Runs cool Comment:
This hard drive was exactly what I was looking for! I'm using it to do incremental backup, so obviously I don't want it running all the time but I want it to be able to wake up when accessed. It does all that perfectly! The power management software is awesome and it puts the drive to sleep after 15 minutes of idling (this can be changed of course). As soon as a file on it is accessed, it spins up. I'm using it with Acronis to do incremental daily backups and it works like a charm! Some people may find the lack of a power switch a bit annoying. I don't really need one since I have on 24/7 but if you only wanna use it for storage, then you might want to consider a different drive, which you don't have to unplug whenever you want to turn it off. |
I have over five Seagate hard drives. Recently one died on me. Luckily, Seagate replaced it under warranty, so I am glad this one comes with a 5 year warranty. Although the included software is not so good, I did not need it with Windows 7.Most 500 GB hard drives have less than 500 useable GB. At $39.99 on sale, I have no other complaints (as a bare hard drive costs around the same price).
