Seagate FreeAgent Goflex Desk 3TB USB3.0 External Hard Drive
Cons:none so far
Pros:Excellent speed, quiet Comment:
I needed some space for movies. This hdd is an excellent choice. At 129.99 I bought two. Excellent speed on USB 3.0 (greater than my Samsung 1.5TB eSATA, but I suspect my motherboard eSata implementation is slow), is not overheating, quiet. Come with some backup software, but I didn't install it yet. Overall a good product. |

Seagate FreeAgent Goflex Desk 3TB USB3.0 External Hard Drive
Cons:Runs a little hot. Will NOT support Windows Backup or mounting of any VHD stored on this drive from any current Windows OS.
Pros:Nice fast unit, lots of space with 3TB Comment:
Got this unit specifically for backups using Windows Backup on Win7(x64). Got home, setup in cpl minutes and tried to do a backup...error “request could not be performed because of an I/O device error”. Tested copying variety of files with no problems, did some research and it appears that this is a known issue with windows and any drive over 2TB; these all use new "Advanced Format"/4K sector size which is not supported by Win Backup or Hyper-V. Called NCIX to try and get an exchange with a 2TB drive and they wanted to charge me a restocking fee...piss me off! Not really their fault, but not mine either. Problem is definitely Microsoft not supporting new format drives but a warning from Seagate or any of the other large drive manufacturers would be nice. Ended up purchasing Acronis True Image Home 2012 and works flawlessly...happy with Acronis but still pissed that I had to spend $50 more than I had intended to get my backups to work. Seagate, Microsoft AND NCIX...all fails in my book in this situation.Forgot to mention: the backup software that comes with the drive is very basic and does NOT do disk images, only file backups.Check link for more info on bug:http://gadgets.itwriting.com/998-why-your-new-2tb-or-3tb-drive-will-not-work-with-windows-backup.html This review was modfied by poster @ 08-23-12 12:46 AM |

Seagate FreeAgent Goflex Desk 3TB USB3.0 External Hard Drive
Cons:none so far...
Pros:looks good... Comment:
3TB for 129$ is an awesome deal!! USB 3.0 is a plus.I never used seagate drive before so i can't really comment on the reliability of the product yet |
It's a good bang for the buck if you buy it on sale. But be aware that you can't use it for Windows image backup due to a driver issue with the 4K sector size. I also don't like the way they put it in a tight all-plastic shell. That traps the heat and will reduce the life of the HDD. The other annoyance is the lack of the power on/off button, which forces me to reach under the desk to turn it on or off.
