Seagate Momentus 5400.6 320Gb 5400RPM 8Mb cache 2.5" SATA hard drive
Cons:Cost to replace plus the hard drive itself is not cheap. If your old pc only has XP or Vista, it may worth considering to pay a bit more to get a new/refurbished laptop which would run faster on a higher window version say window 8 or window 7.
Pros:Popular product |

Seagate Momentus 5400.6 320Gb 5400RPM 8Mb cache 2.5" SATA hard drive
Cons:-Not as fast as 7200 rpm 2.5" HDD's which recently have come down in price to within $10-20 of their 5400rpm brethren.Utterly trounced by new SSD's as a boot drive.
Pros:-Quick, stable hard drive that makes a great upgrade for laptops with older 80-200GB early SATA drives. Best cost per GB in the business in a 2.5" drive.-Makes a FANTASTIC external USB/eSATA drive for moving large files. Comment:
Averages about 56MB/s in HDTach overall. Compared to a newer 7200.4 which gets about 84MB/s in HDtach, the 7200rpm drive is about 50% faster overall. When I got the 5400.6, it was cheaper by a good margin, but recently (February/March 2010), the 7200rpm drives are available at competitive prices on NCIX sales. In the last few months, SSD's have dropped into the sub-$100 category (for 30GB drives), making them very attractive as boot drives on both desktops and laptops. Drives like this are better as secondary/storage drives.Still a nice upgrade for old SATA drives and value-conscious consumers with a need for a few hundred gigabytes of storage. Seagate Momentus 5400.6 320Gb 5400RPM 8Mb cache 2.5" SATA hard drive
Cons:Not really any
Pros:CheapEasy to installEnough storage for most people Comment:
Good harddrive. Wasn't too expensive and it makes a sizeable upgrade from smaller harddrives. I like that it's a 5400 rpm, as even though that slows down access speeds compared to 7200s, it keeps it a little quieter and I think uses less power (that's just a suspicion though). |

Seagate Momentus 5400.6 320Gb 5400RPM 8Mb cache 2.5" SATA hard drive
Cons:none
Pros:Reliable, quiet Comment:
As far as 2.5" hard drives go this has been a reliable favorite. I have been replacing customers' notebook hard drives with the 320gb seagate for quite a while now and have not had a single one come back to me. |
Purchased this to replace a broken seagate hard drive. My seagate hard drive that was originally installed in my new laptop died after 15m of use, so I bought the same one to replace it. The labor cost was $100 to replace. I went to the same place where I purchased my laptop. After replaced by a technician, the hard drive died 5 days later. So, I got a new replacement again. Now, it is still working after 15 m of infrequent use. I have another laptop of a different brand with a hitachi hard drive that is more quiet. Because this is OEM, I went to the same place where I purchased my laptop, as I am not sure whether Seagate would honor the warranty, if u get your laptop and hard drive at different shops.
