Seagate ST2000DX001 Sshd 2TB 3.5in SATA3 64MB Cache Internal Solid State Hybrid Drive OEM
Cons:64MB Cache would be better with 128MB8GB MLC NAND
Pros:SilentFast for price Comment:
Swapped out 2 Raid0 WD black WD6402AAEX for a single Seagate ST2000DX001 so far I`m impressed yet not as fast its nice not to hear the drives and the drop in speed was not huge as I would have figured.I think we are past the 32MB and 64MB cache days. 64MB for lower end drives and minimum 128MB for a premium drive is the way things should be it does matter! I found this out with my WD`s listed above as I also have a 32MB version of the same drive with a huge drop in performance due to cache! They should go for more then 8GB MLC NAND norm for the hybrids and go maybe 32GB MLC NAND add a few $$ and you have a killer combo that won`t stay on shelf's as the only way the drive slows is when the MLC is empty or full.Over all I say its a must buy for size and price for the gear you get. I`m suprized I`m buying Seagate again |

Seagate ST2000DX001 Sshd 2TB 3.5in SATA3 64MB Cache Internal Solid State Hybrid Drive OEM
Cons:-noise (constant buzzing when playing SC2, fine for normal windows usage)-semi pricey, considering it's almost $40 more expensive than other 2 TB (50% increase in price)
Pros:-slightly speedier bootup than conventional HDD-size is perfect for someone who does mostly gaming-easier to setup + more elegant than dual drive config Comment:
Bought it as a replacement for HDD on a standard desktop. Quick bootup is nice, but doesn't feel the same improvement when gaming over conventional HDD. Definitely would enjoy it a lot more if it wasn't constantly buzzing. |

Seagate ST2000DX001 Sshd 2TB 3.5in SATA3 64MB Cache Internal Solid State Hybrid Drive OEM
Cons:-drive needs time to 'learn'-not as fast as SSD, nor as big as HDD
Pros:+Speed+Capacity+Cool & quiet+Price Comment:
The drive does require a bit of training to get optimized. After several reboots, my boot-up time, measured from clearing the POST screen to lock screen, was just under 7 seconds. Thanks to the 8GB SSD on board, the drive is both cool and fast. Seagate has also improved on the acoustics. I almost have to press my ear to the case to hear it during read/write. One thing to notice is that your PC will recognize the drive as a single 2TB drive, not 2 separate drives.Undeniably, this is nowhere near SSD's performance, nor is it as large as the HDD you'd get for the same price. But aggressive pricing makes this drive stand out as an excellent alternative. There's always more I can wish more, but for now, I'm quite pleased with the drive and would recommend it. |
My OS drive is an SSD, but I keep all my games installed on a separate mechanical drive which is what this is for. To that end, it works perfectly, no sacrificing space to squeeze my games onto an SSD, while still having some flash boost. Granted it's "normal" speed the first time data loads, but given the repetitious nature of accessing game data over a long play session, I think it works pretty well.
