Has Seagate name, low expense compared to other NAS options.Would be beneficial to back up or shop data with an 8088 or a 286SX (if the required computer software would run on it) Painfully slow. I began an initial transfer of 60GB two days ago. presently at 54% total. Wired or wireless, this device performs at poor speeds. Entirely useless for my wants, as i can not deal with file transfers that are slower than sneakernet. When i say slow, i mean SLOW!!! I have removed all throttling on my OSs and network, the fault lies in this device.I have tested this on many computer systems and networks 鲤mbps-1000mbps) Maximum transfer speed achieved so far = 264KB/s. Standard upload speed on similar systems/network to a remote FTP = 3Mb/saverage file transfer on network (wireless) = 20Mb/sMaximum download speed accomplished so far = 1.8Mb/sStandard download speed on very same systems/network = 10-18MbpsWhy did Seagate include a gigabit connection on this? a BNC connection would have been far more appropriate

Good base with sata interface. Good shiny black color. Good blinking lights. Horrible configuration, software dependencies, connection limitations, inability to configure and use with no installing software. I was hoping to use this for a backup answer for my residence network. I plugged it into the network and my router reported the IP via DHCP. Hit the IP over the network and attempted to configure more than the net. The device could not locate the seagate central server. Installed the Windows sofware to attempt to configure it. It installed two solutions and numerous programs (some on trial basis) on the machine. The computer software was unable to locate the device even although I could ping it and hit it over the browser. Read the forums - talked about disabling anti-virus/ windows firewall / router protocols on/off, enabling port 22 and 443 access - though I have no issue SSH or HTTPS to anyplace in the globe from my machine. Did a hard reset on the device and reinstalled software program. This time it discovered the drive, but nonetheless could not connect to "central server". Attempted over firefox, IE and Chrome. Attempted on Mac. Gave up.

It does everything it says it does and it seems to do it extremely effectively. I am Quite pleased with this device. I am glad to see that they really didnt limit the funcionality with the subscription apps. They do have some neat positive aspects that would be worth paying for but again they didnt limit or restrict anything that i purchesed this device for. It has a stunning fit and finish and quite properly protected in the packaging. Thumbs up Newegg and Seagate!! None that i can see. This is a extremely functional tool. It is nice for the backup capability and also for the remote acess. As they say if u have an web connection and a browser on a laptop you need to be in a position to acess your files. Again one more thumbs up to Newegg and Seagate. In truth i just purchased two a lot more Seagate drives for a total four brand new ones in this create alone.

- not a bad value for 2TB storage.- installation was very straightforward. Drives mapped automatically. the transfer speeds are Extremely slow. Not certain what the situation is. At first I believed it was b/c of wireless, even so, I've considering that place a NetGear GS108 ten럼񲿘 switch in b/w it and my Pc, and I'm nonetheless only pushing 2MBps. My Computer states I have a 1GBps connection. I'm not expecting a total 1GBps, but 2.5 MBps is gut wrenching.Read their forum, and LOTS of individuals are asking about this with tiny reply. Not really sure I spent my income properly on this.

A lot of storage space, space for a number of users A bit slow more than the network I was excited when the drive came so I could put all my information on it, adequate so that I ignored the truth that the box looked a bit worn for a "new" item. Everything seemed to be in the box so I thought practically nothing far more of it. It took me rather a couple of days soon after setting up the software package to move all my data to it (mostly because of the transfer rate more than the network) but immediately after I was performed, I had about 800GB of information/photoshop/premiere stuff backed up and the subsequent day my computer system refused to see the drive. I was fairly upset thinking of the operate it took to place it on there, but I set it up for an RMA. Regrettably, they're telling me that the serial quantity does not match and they are not accepting the return. That just adds insult to injury. I have no idea what to do at this point. I was excited about this drive, and now it's just expense me 趆 for nothing. Manufacturer Response:Network targeted traffic and the speed/age of the wireless router generally can negatively impact NAS performance. If a router is an older ten럼 router or is transferring when other individuals are on the network downloading other things, it can negatively influence performance.

Or just use Knoppix to read your data and transfer via flashdrive to windows.

Set up is fairly straightforward - basic software program sufficient. Automatic passive backup works properly.Remote access to files 0ver web site.Looked like greatest deal for the $$$ SLOOOOOW efficiency - initial backup took days 鲤 GB) - was hugely disappointed with wireless backup speed. Remote is not friendlyAll software is "upgradeable" so attributes are limited unless you purchase up. Purchased this to backup and add 'network' storage for our household which is two wireless laptops and an old desktop which was seldom applied. Had a tricky time justifying a lot a lot more dollars for greater performance at this point. Manufacturer Response:Network backup is usually determined by network visitors and efficiency. For this reason, we suggest that backups be accomplished when the network has low network traffic. Considering that this is on the network, it is also crucial to verify the wireless performance of the router as properly. If the wireless network signal frequently drops when you are using it, it can be indicative of problems with your wireless router.

Getting able to access my files from anywhere online is a great bonus. I genuinely wanted to put this unit in an outbuilding so that it would be a safer backup. Nonetheless I had to buy a wireless range extender to give it wireless capabilities. This unit need to currently be wireless! I use both a imac and a dell with winxp. I couldn't get time machine to perform the way I wanted. In the finish I went with the built in totally free computer software as it allows me to access the files individually. The windows computer software version was lousy.

Ok speed Valuequietremote access You need to have to use the included software program to set up the driveClunky software program I'm not confident why other individuals are seeing such slow speeds. I'm copying MKV files to the drive as I sort this and am seeing 10.9MB/sec sustained as listed by Windows 7.I do not like the reality you need to have to use the enclosed computer software to setup the drive, but when you do, that is the only time I have touched the software program. The factor creates 3 network places, Property, Public and Backup. Only the Public is accessible to absolutely everyone initially.I do NOT use this as a backup drive so I haven't tried the included computer software for that. I use this a a media hub for a 2 Boxee Boxes. I have put all my MKV files on it and it delivers them with no a hitch.

Dock works with ALL SATA devices. Applies to all goflex drive systems, they are based on the SATA standard. So you can use this drive as an internal drive, without voiding the warranty. The computer software is a pain, but you don't have to install it.

Simple to setup, Works each for Mac and PC, Small design, Quite no fans in the unit. Calls for Seagate Connect software program to establish connection to device. Right after that you can use Finder(mac) or windows explorer (pc) to navigate. I have this device connected to my network and i use it to shop photos and movies. I stream the movies to my PS3. I also have yet another Seagate drive connected via USB which i use for PC backups. If you are seeking for a excellent residence solution that will not break the bank this is a excellent choice.
