Newegg returns was amazing! Anything. Didn't operate out of the box, help was worthless. Get the NETGEAR, it's worth the further income!

Not positive why everybody complains about this. Employing 4 Seagate ST32000542AS 2TB drives with forced CC35 firmware on each and every drive, Setup was just fine, there was a understanding curve in studying about NAS's and networking, but was able to set up RAID 5 with no issue and access the server from any computer system I have. It's been running up for more than 6 months and not a dilemma. I suppose the couple of cons I have are with the UI, unless you set up a global account on Seagate Worldwide Access you can't view the volumes in a browser, only through a networked path. And deleting files in some situations is virtually not possible since of what I can only guess is a bug in the software. I appreciate the compact sleek appear of this unit, the fan keeps the drives truly cool, and tends to make incredibly small noise. The LCD show is actually hassle-free to accessing status, and other overall health of the NAS. For a SOHO user this is a really fantastic item to have.

The box is created with recycled cardboard. Following 28 hours, the four by 2-GB disk array had nonetheless not initialized. No modify in the blinking lights, no transform in the display, which exhibited a warning about foreign disks. Just a seeming interminable future of the identical issue. The documentation is sparse ... at very best. It appears structured as substantially to softpedal shortfalls in the NAS 400 Network Storage Server as to convey a bare minimum of information about operation of the product.Seagate seems confused about the notion of marketing "SATA" compatibility. Rather than being SATA compatible, this housing appears to only be compatible Seagate drives. Seagate describes drives 'certified' for use with this housing. Implicit in their text is the idea that other SATA drives are supported. After all, why advertise that the housing supports SATA drives? More importantly, why not caution possible purchasers, "Only operates with Seagate drives" ... and remove what I think to be misleading text about SATA compliance. It's difficult to consider acquiring a Pc or motherboard with SATA help, and finding out that only WD, Seagate, Fujitsu, or any other brand drive would work. But that's this SATA-enclosure's view of the globe. While my Google-Fu is weak, I researched this obtain just before hitting the button. I suspect that those who've reported difficulty-free of charge operation with non-Seagate drives could have at least two Seagate drives in their array.

Properly packaged design, straightforward to setup, uncomplicated to administrate by way of net interface. None so far. Scheduled backups (nas -> usb in my case) is fantastic feature but can only do day-to-day or weekly. In my case I would like the solution to do a monthly.

Small.Net interface appear poerful enough to satisfy most home users (however, it could be a tiny much more 'robust'). Wow. Where do I begin?Unit appears to have a bad cage. Every drive (and I attempted three) installed reports 'failed' within 24h tops. Installed Ɣ) 2TB Seagate LP HDDs in it and powered it on. Regrettably, drive 1 was in fact DOA ('clicking'). Unit configured itself as RAID 5 with 3 drives. Replaced drive in slot 1 with an additional and 'expanded' the array. Immediately after 3d, it lastly came back and mentioned almost everything was OK. Nevertheless, much less than an hour later it reported that drive was also negative. Given the 'spotty' feedback on the Seagate drives, I replaced it but again. Not even 1d later, it now reports that one particular's bad too.And prior to the Seagate rep comes in here saying 'upgrade the FW and every thing's just peachy-keen'-- offered the quantity of unfavorable feedback right here, the really very first issue I did was upgrade to the newest. This thing's garbage and Seagate requirements to either invest the money to fix it or abandon it, because it's clearly not 'ready for primetime'.As expected, NewEgg was nothing but best-notch on RMAing this.

compact, fan keeps the drives cool, LCD information screen is very informative, neat and stylish case, drive accessibility wonderful Not genuinely a con, but I wished the web interface was much more user friendly I truly didn't get the NAS from NewEgg, but I did obtain three Seagate 2TB 5900rpm drives from them, once it initialized the raid I was in a position to copy anything from my various computers to the NAS and freed up so many drives it was ridiculous. Streaming over the network to my HTPC or other Computer's is flawless, even HD movies. I just ordered the 4th drive to bring my total capacity to 6TB!

Easy to setup, I have two mirrored sets. Recovered 1 from failed drive with ease, e-mail notifications, over all use. 54MB/s study, 27MB/s study on GigE network. mirror rebuild time high. Incredibly slow r/w times when connected to trendnet wireless router even with router setup as a bridge/switch (no nat/port forwarding). It is mostly low cost plastic, but how frequently do you genuinely touch it after its setup? Recycle bin choice just requirements to be turned off. No activity/system logs. Wife uses it to store pictures and she says some pictures copied from Mac are not readable when she pulls them back off, but I've never had any issues.
