Silverstone GD05B mATX HTPC Desktop Case Black 1X5.25 2X3.5INT 1X2.5INT 2XUSB3.0 No PSU
Cons:The hard drive mounts took me a while to figure out. Also the rubber for the mounts comes off as it's hard to slide the ssds or hdds in place without doing so. The case doesn't have much room for sata cables since my sata ports are in the front left of the case (from birds eye view). I had to order left angle sata cables so they can point upwards and out of the way (hopefully they will work when they arrive). Case fans are 3 pin not 4, but can't really complain I ordered Noctua replacements. It says it comes with cable management. Just places to tie down zip ties, nothing more. I expected seeing what Linus always shows in his youtube videos.
Pros:Great case for HTPC. The build quality is amazing. As many people have said on the internet, it looks better in person that in the pictures. The brushed aluminum front is really nicely done. Believe it or not one of my favorite things about this case is that the power and reset buttons have a high quality hard to push feel. Last time I built a pc (10 years) buttons were really cheap and just a light click. This makes it feel like a premium product. Also it has usb 3.0 front headers so that's a plus. Finally comes with 3 case fans for free and fits ATX power supply. Comment:
Overall great case with some minor setbacks. |

Cons:Didn't quite like the hard drive setup
Pros:Nice looking, good airflow, silent Comment:
Make sure to buy a modular PSU as you won't have much space for all the cables inside the case.I was able to fit the Scythe Big Shuriken 2 REV.B without any issue and I'm using the ASUS Maximus V Gene mATX motherboard which fit also perfectly. |
This is pretty much everything I want in a HTPC case... full-height, nice design, USB 3.0 ports, good cooling. Installation was a breeze, but I still do not fully understand the rubber air guide for one of the 3.5" mounting areas. Reading reviews, others seem to have found it difficult to figure out too.... this brain couldn't unfortunately. :( Decided to just mount it in the other spot.My other issue with the case is that the fans are fairly loud. I've seen people volt mod them, but since my HTPC build is pretty basic and is only used for media playback, I decided to take two of the fans out and just have one.Other than that, highly recommended.
