StarTech IDE2510U2 Silver External Enclosure
Cons:The problem with having a thin, sleek case is that it was a tight fight for my 2.5" laptop hard drive. The major issue was that the underside of the hard drive that I was going to use had the circuitry exposed. That is, metal case + exposed HDD circuit + tight fit = asking for trouble. So I cut out and inserted a thin piece of plastic underneath my hard drive so that it acts as a kind of barrier between my HDD and the metallic case. Better safe than sorry.
Pros:Very lightweight. The metal that the case is made of really stays nice and cool; almost like a heat sink. |

StarTech IDE2510U2 Silver External Enclosure
Cons:A little bit tight when you remove the drive from the top piece, might not last forever
Pros:Works flawlessly, just as described Comment:
I had stacks of old PATA laptop hard drives laying around, some of which had critical data on them from the previous owners. Before I got this, I had a laptop, in which I would remove the regular hard drive, plug in the one I needed data from, and then boot via USB to copy that data off. Now, all I have to do is slide the drive into this, and I'm off to the races! Very happy to add this to my toolbox! |

StarTech IDE2510U2 Silver External Enclosure
Cons:-Very tight fit
Pros:-Quick setup-Works out of the box-Good instructions Comment:
This was a very easy to setup standard IDE to USB 2.0 adapter. The little carrying case for added protection was nice bonus. Easily makes a spare external hard drive if you have IDE drvies lying around. A bit of a tight fit inside, but it works. |

StarTech IDE2510U2 Silver External Enclosure
Cons:Screw holes did not quite line-up.
Pros:Standard enclosure that works as described, very affordable. Includes mini-screwdriver. Comment:
This is your standard 2.5 inch enclosure for your old IDE laptop hard disk. Very affordable when price-matched, and worked immediately on my Windows 7 PCs. I can't speak to how easily it would be to install on non-Windows platforms. The only issue I had was that no matter how I tried, the screw-holes did not quite line up, although I was nonetheless able to secure the disk. |

StarTech IDE2510U2 Silver External Enclosure
Cons:Feels cheaply made.
Pros:- cheap- fast set up Comment:
Good drive enclosure. I had an hard drive left over from a dead laptop and the set up was under 5 minutes including the removal from the laptop. The option to use one usb port or two (with the included cable) for speed increase is also convenient. |

StarTech IDE2510U2 Silver External Enclosure
Cons:Tiny screws to assemble case to mounting bracket are REALLY tiny. If lost, they'll be hard to replace. Not tool free
Pros:Easy assemblyAluminum case keeps the drive coolSmall compact sizeSmall screwdriver provided for assembly Comment:
For such a small cost, this case provides excellent quality and value. I installed an 80GB IDE drive from an old laptop into this case. The assembly was very fast and intuitive. The drive operated smoothly and quietly in it and it was instantly recognized by Windows 7, Windows XP and a Linux based disk utility application. |

StarTech IDE2510U2 Silver External Enclosure
Cons:None that I have encountered as of yet.
Pros:Easy to assemble, no drivers to install (self installs), no additional power source required. Comment:
Strengths outlined above. Once of the things I like about a device like that is that it is portable and requires no additional power source or connector to power the hdd inside the enclosure since it is used for IDE drives. Now the USB cable has a double headed connector for using a second USB slot for added power, but unfortuantly there is no SATA connector that comes with the enclosure. |
2.5" IDE enclosures are hard to find nowadays. If you've got compatible hard drives sitting around, you might as well grab this while you can.
