Syba SY-PEX40008 4 Channel SATA II Controller Card PCI-E 1X
Cons:None now. We'll see what happens later because I use SnapRaid with hashes and parity. Errors won't be missed.Using the card for any sort of striped RAID is beyond foolish. It's too slow and inexpensive. But for a non-striped parity array, or simply adding extra drives, it could be super.
Pros:I plugged it in and 4x3T drives came up with Mint16.It works fine and is properly detected even though I have a Syba PCI card also plugged in.Things are much easier due to four connectors in a row, facing out when you remove left side of case. This is different to PCI card with SATA connectors in twos on two sides of card.Works fine in a 16X slot - obviously at 1X speeds.PM accepted (54.99). This is a stopgap, but the card will still be useful with other boards/computers. |

Syba SY-PEX40008 4 Channel SATA II Controller Card PCI-E 1X
Cons:Not good as a RAID card.
Pros:Works great for adding SATA ports to an older computer. Comment:
I bought this to turn an older system into a NAS box for a friend. It worked perfectly fine in JBOD mode but when I decided to try setting up a 4 disk RAID array, it constantly and randomly dropped between 1-2 drives on every reboot despite having the latest drivers and BIOS for the card. Back to JBOD mode and it's a solid performer again. In summary, if you just want to add some ports, this will work great. If you're looking for a cheap RAID solution, keep looking. |

Syba SY-PEX40008 4 Channel SATA II Controller Card PCI-E 1X
Cons:
Not a true PCIe to SATA card, uses a PCI to PCIe bridge chip.
Pros: Can be used with RAID / Non-RAID biosInexpensive way to add 4 SATA portsPCIe Comment:
Wanted to add a few DVD burners to a computer but had already used up the onboard SATA ports. Grabbed one of these and reflashed it using the silicon image Non-RAID bios and it works perfectly. |

Nothing super special. Just a good standard PCI-E SATA controller. Had to grab the latest drivers for Windows 7 off their website. |

Syba SY-PEX40008 4 Channel SATA II Controller Card PCI-E 1X
Cons:
PCI-EX 1x will bottleneck if used with SSD or if more than 2 HDD are used simultaneously.
Pros: SATA2 PCI-EX 1xFAST-SWAP works really well! Many of these may be used on the same computer with no problem!Works great on my Windows Server 2008 Enterprise Edition Comment:
Very easy to install.Unable to find up-to-date drivers and Windows update did not find drivers for it. I had to use the included CD.I use three of these cards in my data storage server. I have three drive per card and the hot-swap works really great. The BIOS will display the RAID menu for each card. I did not test that feature though.Performance are pretty good. I use the software RAID5 from Windows Server 2008 combined with my Core i7 processor. Together they make it really fast. |
I guess the card keeps working, throws errors or ports stop working. If the latter happens then I will edit. Day one though and everything is working perfectly. This is a stopgap for me since I've ordered a Supermicro card (8X), but also having this card is pretty cheap insurance for connecting drives and getting at data. 1X is perfectly fast enough for accessing one drive and playing a movie, while performing checks on a whole array at the same time. This card is new to me, but similar PCI cards have worked well for years. My Sabertooth board has no problems with booting hard drives from it's SATA connectors first, but a few years back adding a Syba card would cause the computer not to boot until a person specified which order to boot, in the BIOS.
