Syba SY-USB-FDD External USB 1.44MB Floppy Drive
Cons:Cheaply made, worked once and then failed to read any diskette that was inserted.
Pros:None. Unit worked once and then died. Comment:
Read one diskette once and then failed to recognize any subsequent floppy inserted. Tried with multiple computers. My old laptop's floppy drive still managed to read the same diskettes without issues. |

Syba SY-USB-FDD External USB 1.44MB Floppy Drive
Cons:None
Pros:Works great on PC and even on Mac OS X (Although seeking floppies on Mac are slower due to Apple's lack of DOS support in OS X). Comment:
This floppy drive was one of the cheapest on NCIX and worked great for what I needed to. Wanted to grab some old art files from some floppies that haven't been accessed for more than 15 years! I am glad I got to them before all the data on the floppies became corrupted due to time. |

Syba SY-USB-FDD External USB 1.44MB Floppy Drive
Cons:- Picky about disc's ie sometimes 2or3 attempts before read- not always plug and play
Pros:- no ext. power needed, single cable USB- small, lightweight, no opening up of case req'd Comment:
Use to update motherboard Bios' and/or install AHCI/Raid drivers. Nine times out of ten works flawlessly, But does require some user knowledge to try different work arounds ie Bios settings, boot orders, safe modes etc. Can be hit and miss with old/worn media, but generally a helpful addition for 14 after PM. |

Cons:
none.
Pros: SmallWorks as it should Comment:
I bought this specifically to install Windows XP onto a RAID array. This floppy drive did exactly what I needed it to and is sleek looking besides. Not something you will use everyday, but it is nice to have it when you need it. |

Syba SY-USB-FDD External USB 1.44MB Floppy Drive
Cons:
must be hot plugged to work
Pros: can be bootablereads/writes floppies Comment:
works fine, does what it's suppose to do.I had some trouble figuring out how to get this thing to work at first, then I figured out, that it must be hot plugged to work.So to boot from this device insert the boot disk into the device first then quickly after pressing the computers power button, plug the device into the USB port. Now it works.Same goes with general use, plug the device into the USB port after booting and you should have full access. If you shutdown with the device still plugged in and restart, the device my not be usable.Overall I can't complain, it does what I need it to do. |

I do some tech support as a side thing for friends and I bought this for the times I needed to either flash a bios or to install additional drivers during windows setup. Haven't had a chance to use it as of it but it works fine a A drive. |

Syba SY-USB-FDD External USB 1.44MB Floppy Drive
Cons:won't work with Vista Business on Toshiba Satellite Pro P200-S03 notebook
Pros:worked well with Win XP Pro SP2 on Acer Aspire 5610 notebook Comment:
Vista Business sees the USB FDD device(s: ['Mitsumi USB Floppy' > 'MITSUMI USB FDD 061M USB Device' > 'Generic volume - (G:)]) but indicates that there is 'No Media' in the FDD when there certainly is.The FDD can be heard accessing the FD while being discovered and installed, but, after successful installation, FDD never accesses FD when trying to display contents of drive in Windows Explorer. So far haven't figured out what Vista's problem is. |

Syba SY-USB-FDD External USB 1.44MB Floppy Drive
Cons:limited use
Pros:compactfastportable Comment:
This external floppy drive was purchased simply to transfer data from legacy 3.5 inch disks. Works as expected. |
Great drive for the price. it's nice that it's USB bus powered for a one cable installation.I had to go to Syba's website to download the latest drivers for Windows 7. Don't use Windows's one drivers, it doesn't function well. Also I'm kinda surprised to see that this drive will only read and write on HD disks only (1.44 MB) only, not even being able to read the 720k disks. Odd, oh well.
