Synology DS410 DiskStation 4-bay All-in-1 NAS Server for Home to Business Workgroup Users
Comment:
Uncomplicated Set upDrives just plug in, no cables neededesata port (not poweredƢTB maximum support ƖTB usable).Easy to add drives/capacityGreat DocumentationVery good worth No USB three support.Drives are not hot swappable. I had an Iomega ix2 that died in 13 months (just out of warranty) and took my data with it. Immediately after performing a lot of study and reading every review I could discover, I chose to replace it with the Synology DS-410. So far, I am a content camper. It’s rapidly, quite quiet (I can't hear it more than the fan in my pc), simple to set up, runs cool, (unlike the ix2 which cooked my drives) has useful indicator lights and looks excellent. I had it out of the box and running in about 15 minutes. Formatting the drives takes a although (about an hour), so be patient. If you understand fundamental networking and directory structure you will have no challenge with this device. I have it set up with two 500GB mirrored drives. When I add an additional drive (or two), it will reconfigure itself into a raid 5 method and the capacity will double (or triple). |

Synology DS410 DiskStation 4-bay All-in-1 NAS Server for Home to Business Workgroup Users
Comment:
- File, Photo, and Audio Station along with WebDav support support make this a extremely function-packed NAS. - UPNP/DLNA support that works surprisingly nicely. - Reasonable price when compared to competing 4-bay NAS devices at this level. - Extremely rapidly network speeds - Torrent and general file sharing support is really well created. - Outstanding support for file and folder permissions. - Quite quiet. With 3 1.5tb drives this device is practically silent while my pretty quiet laptop or computer is already operating. There is a slight hum when there are no other sources of sound. - Synology Hybrid RAID (SHR) will not permit adding a drive lower in capacity than the smallest one in the existing volume/array. For example, if you have two 1tb drives, you can not add a 750gb drive to the existing volume. Rather, the new drive(s) will become a separate. Only the Drobo devices seem to easy support this capacity but they are also FAR slower. - Adding a new drive to an existing SHR volume took pretty much 12 hours. No biggie. - The drives do not appear to be hot-swappable and the drives can only be removed when the rear panel is removed employing the thumb screws. Still not a massive deal but wanted to mention it. I've had the DS410 for about a week now and I am extremely impressed. It was somewhat uncomplicated to setup and perform with as long as you are somewhat technically minded. Even although there are competing characteristics/products from other manufacturers including the Netgear X-RAID, the Synology Hybrid RAID (SHR) function is the single biggest reason I bought this unit. Overall past users seem to be very happy with its reliability, consistency, and speed. |

Synology DS410 DiskStation 4-bay All-in-1 NAS Server for Home to Business Workgroup Users
Comment:
size It eats drives, two failed in two months. The software is pretty a lot windows only and produced to talk to other Diskstations, you had much better know unix if you want it to do more. To get rsync to run you have to download a distinct version than comes with the thing. First genuinely disappointing product I have purchased on newegg. build your own freenas it's far a lot more robust. |

Synology DS410 DiskStation 4-bay All-in-1 NAS Server for Home to Business Workgroup Users
Comment:
Easy to setup, quick installation, integrates easily with Active Directory, you get a ton of options thru the internet interface None I bought 4 2TB difficult drives and have this setup in a RAID 5, gives me 5.5TB of storage which is a lot for my medium sized organization. Backing up various distinct servers to it, no key issues therefore far.You can't beat this device for the cost/storage. If it has dual power supplies that'd be nice |

Synology DS410 DiskStation 4-bay All-in-1 NAS Server for Home to Business Workgroup Users
Cons:
Not all metal. not tool less install
Pros: Most features for its price Comment:
Very good construction, wish that it support locking of hard drive and tool less install. Transfer speed often between 40MB/s to 60 MB/s. LED might be too bright. |

Synology DS410 DiskStation 4-bay All-in-1 NAS Server for Home to Business Workgroup Users
Cons:
Hibernation issues (Win7 x64 keeps waking up the NAS), fan runs 24/7, inability to only spin up individual basic volume drives when required (all or none)
Pros: Fast server, nice GUI, many useful features Comment:
Purchased the DS410 as an upgrade for my DNS-323, which was running out of space and slow compared to the DS410 specs. While the DNS-323 worked perfectly well on my network (including hibernation), the DS410 has not had the same success. I've spent 1 month trying to figure it out (with Synology tech support), but have not really gotten anywhere. There seems to be a problem with the DS410's UPnP server, and win7's UPnP / discovery services that keep waking the device every few minutes. I can eliminate the problem by turning off UPnP, and rely on SMB links, but that renders my DLNA devices unusable. Haven't played with any other services or packages as I've been trying to resolve these hibernation issues, so I can't speak for them. Server speed is great, ability to stream HD to multiple devices concurrently, data transfers to/from the NAS are really fast, but really not happy with the hibernation issues, and Synology not being terribly helpful (as this appears to them as a win7 problem, and not their product per se, so support is very limited). I'd give this 5 stars if it were as easy & trouble free to configure as the DNS-323, but given the headaches I'm having, and 25+ hours of troubleshooting, I'm not very thrilled, especially given the cost of this device...would have expected it to be painless and have better support. |

Synology DS410 DiskStation 4-bay All-in-1 NAS Server for Home to Business Workgroup Users
Cons:
None, so far.
Pros: Easy to set up, includes many different methods of connecting to it, monitoring is great. Comment:
We implemented this device for a client running out of storage on their server, using 3 drives in RAID5...we decided to use iSCSI to connect it to the servers...we created 2 connectors, one for Linux and one for Windows. Both work perfectly and I could not ask for more. |

Synology DS410 DiskStation 4-bay All-in-1 NAS Server for Home to Business Workgroup Users
Cons:
A bit expensive compared to other units... but you get what you pay for. Cannot hot swap drives.
Pros: Loads of Features, Rock solid linux, Very easy to setup and operate, quiet operation, energy efficient. Comment:
I have been looking for a multiple disk media solution to work with my WDTV Live boxes for several months now. After trying XBMC, WHS, and a smaller Synology box (which is also very good btw), i ended up purchasing this DS410. I am very glad I did, and happy with the transfer speeds and operation of this NAS. Lots of private or public user file sharing options, and it streams high bitrate 1080p like a dream using NFS paired with modded WDTV firmware. Highly recommended!!! |
ExpandibleCustomizeableRapid adequateLow power use (compared to running a Pc as a server) Cost (but fair value, I assume)Does not recognize many UPS'sFree of charge iSCSI computer software is unreliableDid not recognize my cyberpower UPS (that I loved) , so that was another ์ for an APC UPS.The free of charge GlobalSAN iSCSI target software for mac OS X was what I tried to use for my networked Time Machine backup initially, but it is unstable and I kept losing the connection halfway into a 450GB network backup and having to start out over(Ouch!). Commercial software for this purpose is various hundred dollars. It does perform fine as a mapped network drive for Time Machine, but I would have preferred iSCSI. This NAS is amazing. I installed DSM three proper away. Working with it with three Samsung Spinpoint F4 2TB drives which it functions fantastic with. Write speed about ㅑ MB/s(fast sufficient). Fundamental setup was a breeze, but the capacity to void your computer software warranty and install a bunch of custom stuff is where it really shines.-I'm utilizing it for a network Time Machine backup.-I also am now using it exclusively for my bittorrent files with a version of Transmission compiled for the synology PPC NAS.-I have employed it to download from an NZB from my news host as well (there is also a plan to install that will check par2 data and unRAR your stuff for you). I'm making use of it as a network media server as well.-I am able to access it remotely from the net as a file server.-My old Athlon XP server with 5 500gb drives in RAID5 utilised about 240 watts. This box with 3 2tb drives makes use of about 55Watts. That's gonna save me some critical green more than time.-I installed pyTivo as well, so I can move files to and from my T
