I was looking to buy a synology nas for a while and glad i waited for this one. this unit has a lot of great features (as does all synology nas) and the read/write speeds are phenomenal. write speeds were around 58MB/s; read were around 35 MB/sfeatures are too numerous to get into but here are a few:download manager: works with megadownload (if you have an account); torrents (not as good as utorrent but passable); and nzb reader (not as good as some other apps like newsleecher but still passable). i also installed SABnzb on the ds1010 and it works great. i primary use this for newsgroups. it has all the features of sab so if you're used to it i highly recommend you download and install itinterface is a little clucky, especially the file manager. i'd rather use windows explorer to manage the files on the ds1010. The it's also not as intuitive as i'd like - for example, you activate feature disk station manager, but cannot configure it.creating volumes is easy enough but takes a long timeit took about 24 hours to build a 2x2tb mirror'd raid; 4-5 hours to build a basic 500GB volume with no redundancy.mounting these volumes on my win7 computers within the same network was very easy; mounting it on my hdx1000 is also just as easy.bottom line, buy this if you can afford it. The ready/write speeds on this unit is worth the extra cash
