TRENDnet TEW-649UB USB 2.0 Mini Wireless Adapter
Cons:everythingjunk
Pros:none less than none Comment:
technically works but freezes on 144p while watching movies... 360p? forget about it switches down to 144p then freezes halfway though a 2 min video. tried driver on cd, downloaded from trendnet website (at 68kb/s) no dice.. even used device manager for windows to install using the win7/x64 folder, installs but does same thing.. frustrating and if I have to pay to ship it back not even worth rma |

TRENDnet TEW-649UB USB 2.0 Mini Wireless Adapter
Cons:Utility interferes with other wireless utilitiesGets very hot in Linux
Pros:Excellent speed150 Mbps transmit but 300 Mbps receive, i.e. 1x2 antennasTinyExcellent rangeLow priceActivity LEDRuns in Linux Comment:
I've always been wary of USB wireless dongles. Tiny, low-gain PCB antennas, crappy drivers. However they do come in handy so I got one for playing around with a Raspberry Pi and backup computers. This one is a bit unusual. It's an oddball 1x2 device which transmits over one antenna but receives 2 streams over 2 antennas. This means it's rated 150 Mbps/300 Mbps - but only with 40 MHz wide channels which you are unlikely to be able to use. Otherwise with 20 MHz channels it will be 72/144 sync rate. The speeds tested very well, almost as good as my integrated 3-stream N450 adapter in my laptop. I used iperf's simultaneous bidirectional test to saturate the connection completely. The fastest speed I measured in my small house was 75.25 Mbps and the slowest was 51.87 Mbps at the location furthest from my router. That's still faster than most Internet connections and fast enough for HD video with lots of room to spare. It's quite an impressive result. I really didn't think that a device so small with such tiny antennas could be so fast. There's not much to the device physically - the only item of note is an activity LED that doubles as a WPS pushbutton. Handy (the LED, not the pushbutton).Don't use the wireless utility on Windows if the PC has any built-in wireless devices. Windows' native wireless connection manager can handle it fine. The TRENDnet wireless utility looks nice and gives lots of data but it's yet another startup program and it badly interfered with the built-in wireless on my laptop. It disabled it *in hardware* until the utility was uninstalled. My main purpose for this was using it on a Raspberry Pi and in other Linux computers. It runs fine on the Raspberry Pi, testing at 72.8 Mbps, very impressive! It also runs fine on my Linux Mint 16 PC. However it does not run on a Linux Mint 16 live DVD - I assume the appropriate kernel modules are not included in a live DVD environment. Also it runs VERY hot in Linux - almost too hot to touch after less than a minute plugged in. I'm concerned it will be damaged if it's used long-term. This isn't the device's fault, I'm guessing the kernel module applies way too much power to the poor little thing.4 stars for the surprising speed and range though! |

Cons:
nothing so far
Pros: compact size and n capability Comment:
Cant say anything bad about this compact piece of hardware. Works around the house - I've got the router on the main floor. receives well in the basement and upstairs (although my house is not too large - about 1600 sq ft) Great value for the price when its on sale. |

Cons:

Pros: Small sizeGreat performance Comment:
I was using an Asus 802.11B/G USB Adaptor on my HTPC and was experiencing dropped signals all the time. This Trendnet seems to have cured the problem. I watched hours of programming across the network last night and never experienced a single hiccup. My router is only a "G" so I don't know how good the "N" speed is on this unit. I do know it operates at the full 54Mbps speed consistently within my network. It's amazing how well this works, as it's extremely small in size. |

TRENDnet TEW-649UB USB 2.0 Mini Wireless Adapter
Cons:
None that I can think of.
Pros: Size, N capability, Speed Comment:
I bought this for significantly less on the boxing day week blowout. Was placed on backorder, but received it quickly after. As you can see in the picture with the quarter, or plugged into the laptop this unit is tiny! However size doesn't affect the speed of it, especially if you have a N Router to partner up with it. Has everything you would want in a USB Wireless Adapter. I would highly recommend this item, especially if it is on sale. |

TRENDnet TEW-649UB USB 2.0 Mini Wireless Adapter
Cons:
none at all
Pros: compact, high speeds Comment:
this unit is quite small. It's nice to have a USB adapter that is so compact. I've always shied away from the USB adapters since they stick out so far and can get caught on stuff, potentially ruining it....so this is nice. The speeds go quite high as well. |

i'm transfering at pretty high speeds, almost the same as lan. on sale for 25 on the boxing day, i would have gotten more if i could. de-wire my desktops |
I have internet speed of ~3.1 megabyte/s download speed which is faster than average. Yet this is still able to take on such speed fully and does not bottle neck my enjoyment of internet. It does get very hot fast after mere few minutes of us, which can be a bit scary
