TRENDnet TPL-307E 200MBPS Powerline AV Single Adapter With Bonus Outlet
Cons:Messes up radios all over the houseSustained speeds are not spectacular
Pros:Stable connectionUseful extra outlet |
I got this unit to add a second computer to the network of powerline ethernet that I already had with a TPL-307E2K. Evidently this unit was compatible with the TPL-307E2K as they're the same device. I am running a computer (FoldingtHome SMP+GPU) off the extra outlet connection with no problems, and plug is well placed, such that it does not block the top socket if you plug it into the bottom of an electrical outlet. The connection is much more stable than WiFi, providing a connection that doesn't have spikes of latency or disconnection. However the sustained speeds are not that great - 10Mbps or so copying files internally in the network with SAMBA.A side effect of running this unit (along with other powerline) is that the HomePlug operates at the same frequencies as shortware radio, making such radios completely useless. You hear a "ticking" sound in the audio that's much louder than the broadcast.
