TRENDnet TPL-401E2K Powerline AV Adapter Kit
Cons:None really.

Pros:Very easy to set up. Faster home network speed than Rogers gateway modem (Cisco DPC3825). NCIX frequently has these on sale for approximately $60.
Comment:
Used to connect my XBOX 360 on the main floor to my computer on the second floor so that I can stream 720p video to the XBOX using Windows Media Center. Previously had the two connected wirelessly by a Rogers supplied gateway modem (Cisco DPC3825) but the throughput really wasn't adequate. With the TPL-401E2K I'm getting about 120 Mbps which is decent.

Cons:Doesn't do 1080p video streaming

Pros:Works like a hot damn!
Comment:
Man when I got this I was so excited, first off, I used to use the Belkin ones which were 200mpbs...this is 500. Wow, what an upgrade... anyways, I recommend you get this if you want to use your electrical outlets for network!

TRENDnet TPL-401E2K Powerline AV Adapter Kit
Cons:Not all outlets will work

Pros:Excellent Speed and reliability without having to drill holes for running ethernet.
Comment:
I bought this on sale for $60 and it has been working quite well so far. I average 23mbps from the line in and this ethernet power-line averages around 17mbps (on the opposite side of the house). Overall very quick and reliable so far.

TRENDnet TPL-401E2K Powerline AV Adapter Kit
Cons:Don't expect anything approaching the speeds advertised in the marketing literature. Depending on location, average throughput as measured by Smallnetbuilder.com in a "typical" home environment is closer to 80 Mbps than the 500 Mbps they claim is possible.

Pros:Plug and play, beats wireless any day and is a significant improvement over older AV 200 models, especially if you start using multiple units.
Comment:
Handy little networking appliance for streaming HD to a media player if Cat 5 isn't an option. For $60, it's also probably a cheaper solution than wireless with far better speed and stability. My application performs well at 100 Mbps+ for large file transfers but the total wiring distance is only approx. 80' from Router ? TPL401E2K ? Main Panel ? TPL401E2K ? Boxee. Your mileage may vary.

TRENDnet TPL-401E2K Powerline AV Adapter Kit
Cons:The best I could get out of them yet is 15 MB/s (Megabytes per second) - still freaking awesome compare to my wireless.Size I guess, thise things are big, and they don't have a pas-through, but at least they don't block the other wall jack.

Pros:Cheap and fast
Comment:
Bought on sale for 59 bucks - by far the cheapest powerline kit rated at 500Mbps (Megabits per second). Since this is bi-directional speed at best these powerline adaptors would be able to transfer at 250Mbps (roughly 25 MB/s).I got it to complement my existing WD Livewire 4port Powerline kit and ditch the wireless router(too unstable, basically unusable for HD Streaming and Internet TV).The Line quality indicator on this kit is my new best pal now. Initial testing was done at work (industrial environment). The first wall outlet was indicating poor line quality (red LED)and I was transfering at 3.5 MB/s (test done with 1.3GB iso). When I changed to an outlet 6 feet away I got green light on the LED. Doing the same test yielded transfer speeds of 14.6-16.0 MB/s. (Source and target in the same room, 15 feet away)With my WD Livewire at home I was geting at best 6-8 MB/s, mind you that kit is rated at 200Mbps and cost me over 100 bucks when I got it a few monts ago from NCIX. I also got the Diamond Multimedia HP200AV kit, but gave it to a friend and it will be a week before I can test it.

TRENDnet TPL-401E2K Powerline AV Adapter Kit
Cons:range is horrible

Pros:speed when connect in same circuit
Comment:
bought this one thinking to replace my old NetGear HDX101. Range is horrible. My old HDX101 from 2008 has twice the range of this 500mbs adapter. Stay within the same or room next door, the connection is fine, but as soon as I move it further than that, the adapter can't even be detected. Tried several location, same thing.

Cons:security set up

Pros:plug and "play"
Comment:
so, I wasn't too sure what to expect when purchasing this product. However, it ended up being a pretty good product overall. The setup was quite easy. They give you 2 Ethernet cable in case you don't have any extra which is pretty good. I used a wireless, and I did see a major boost in performance and speed (downloads, uploads, etc). I had a hard time setting up the security system with the powerline, but all in all, it was easy to sync and would recommend to others.

TRENDnet TPL-401E2K Powerline AV Adapter Kit
Cons:stability

Pros:size, setup
Comment:
Purchased to overcome between-floor wireless issues, and purchased a second set for multiple rooms. Easy to set up all 4, great that you don't have to set one as a base only as they all peer.Speed was between 30-50Mbps depending on the distance, about what was expected. Added to a switch to expand one to multiple devices, no problems with this setup.Periodically having problems where my uplink station will crawl and needs a hard reset, seems to be subject to noise being close to the breaker box.Size was good, only used one outlet unlike previous powerline devices I have tried.

TRENDnet TPL-401E2K Powerline AV Adapter Kit
Comment:
Effortless to use, works out of the box, faster than 802.11g When carrying out anything bandwidth intensive, both units randomly overheat and turn off. The units also periodically lose their configuration and have in no way negotiated a speed mbit; they usually operate at mbit. The configuration tool appears to have the capacity to configure multiple units at the identical time; on the other hand, utilizing that functionality causes all units to be configured differently which only breaks the network. My negotiated speeds may be a result of the signal traveling from 1 electrical phase to a different. I have not checked no matter if each units are on the very same phase.

Cons:Doesn't work great if your particular home has unfavorable wiring characteristics.

Pros:Works great if your particular home has favorable wiring characteristics.
Comment:
I've had mixed results with these. They interrupted my landlord's Telus HD TV signal which is a problem I'm trying to fix with EMI/RFI filtered power bars.I find these to be a better solution than wireless networking, and they are very easy to set up out of the box. They don't have to be on the same circuit breakers since all outlets share a common neutral, but it helps performance wise if they are on the same breaker (less wiring distance to cover). These will be affected by large loads such as stoves and microwaves.

Comment:
I have actually got three of these units so far, all for different clients and they are more than happy with them. This is an awesome way of getting internet/intranet to other parts of the home where wireless and or wires are not an option. At arround $69 these are probably your best bet, heck even below $100 these are better the most if not all from the reviews I've read.

I'm using this to connect a desktop on my upper level to a router on my main level. Did my research before buying - don't expect to get a full 500Mbps with this thing. My connection seems to be stable at 130Mbps. Had to reconnect them twice so far, but not a major issue for me.

these are great, however if you are unlucky like me and you end up on different phases of your house wiring you won't get great speeds. I still get 3-4Mbs. The product itself is great but you have to be aware that it might not work for you.

Cons:-Failed to change security key with sync button-I got only 240mbps instead of 500mbps as announced

Pros:-Plug & play (if you don't try to change security key)-Very fast shipping, the order arrived (Montreal) in 48 hours
Comment:
It is really plug & play if you don't change security key. I tried to change security key with sync button but it doesn't work. I have to use powerline configuration utility to change it one by one. I got 240mbps as speed, it is fast enough to play a 1080p mkv movie stored in my popcorn hour.Very fast shipping, the order arrived in 48 hours

WIll update  when I have more information, but initial setup causes my internet speeds to drop  drastically compared to wireless N (on PC). House is about 30 years old. Expected better, would say I am not even getting 100MBS at this piont

It's ok if your under 20' (100-155Mbps) but beyond that your below 50Mbps and that's of you can even get a reading...My Netgear HDX101's were old and hot but at least they work when I connected to my IP cameras on the other side of the house.

Cons:None so far

Pros:Very easy setupVery fastGood design
Comment:
I switched to these from the D-Link DHP-307AV, this is a 300mbs kit versus the 500mbs Trendline kit.Setup was very easy, I just plugged them in and they worked... Speed is very good, my download speeds have more than tripled with this kit. No change in location, using the exact same outlets, same cables, same everything. These are a better physical design as well, the D-Link kit would hog up both plugs on each outlet due to the design.I am extremely happy with this purchase, especially at the sale price.

TRENDnet TPL-401E2K Powerline AV Adapter Kit
Cons:Son keeps complaining that his Club Penguin (heavy graphics) seems slower than with a direct connection, changing the network name results in no connectivity, security sucks - making changes seems to effect connectivitiy

Pros:Easy to set-up (just plug and play), so far throughput exceeds 150mbs consistently, no noticable lag when VPN into the office
Comment:
Overall I'm pretty happy with the devices, I bought 2 kits as I run a netbook in my bedroom plus a repeater due to wireless signal issues on the 2nd floor of our 3-floor townhouse. So far connectivity is consistent though I do notice lag from time-to-time when doing heavy YouTube or when several wireless devices (iPad, iPhone, Android tablet/phone) are all accessing the router/repeater.I am using Shaw 50mbs service with the Cisco cable modem & router.

None, units had been DOA Units had been DOA. Appears to be poor QC at factory. Only one particular of the units in the set works, the other won't power on, no lights, no nothing. The unit appears to be fully DOA. This must have been caught at the factory befor the unit was even boxed. I'm incredibly disappointed in the quality of this item. I would wait till other vendors make a 500 Mb/s adapters.

TRENDnet TPL-401E2K Powerline AV Adapter Kit
Cons:Software to configure and set security did not detect the units - This makes it difficult if you want to use these units with other powerline adapters from competitors (netgear, belkin, etc).

Pros:Easy to use out of the box. Speeds sufficient for my needs.
Comment:
These are good for the price (paid $70). Speeds are OK. I bought netgear xav101 200Mbps a few years ago and needed these 500 Mbps ones for streaming 1080p. Speeds at various points in my 60 year old house max out at 62.9 Mbps write and 47.9 Mbps read to a DNS-323 using lanspeedtest (maybe bottleneck is DNS-323?). I would have thought it would get at least 100 Mbps read/write but the above speeds are sufficient for 1080p streaming. The biggest downside is that the powerline adapter configuration software did not detect the devices (tried both software on CD that came with unit and software from TrendNet's support page). Not completely sure what the issue is but luckily, the Netgear powerline adapter software detected them and I was able to set the security code on all 4 of my units (2 Trendnet TPL-401E and 2 old Netgear xav 101).
