Thermaltake BlacX Duet 5G ST0022U Black HDD Docking Station
Cons:- none
Pros:- good solid finish- works as advertised Comment:
I have a lot of HDDs and data to move around. At my desktop I have two dangling SATA and power cables, but such a solution does not look clean and is not feasible with my notebook, my Raspberry Pi, my router. This docking station is the solution to my needs. I do not need to power up the full server now to access the backup drives. I just plug this device into the USB port of the laptop and it works. I can access FAT / NTFS / ext2/3/4 / UFS and even ZFS formatted partitions. It works in Linux and in Windows. Plug and play at its best. |

Thermaltake BlacX Duet 5G ST0022U Black HDD Docking Station
Cons:Power to drives is insufficient
Pros:Setup is super easyWorks awesome on my USB 3 port Comment:
I have 2 x 2tb Seagate drives. Device will not power them up if both are plugged in. I need to have one plugged in first and then plug in the second after the first has spun up. Other than that, this is a great little setup. |

Thermaltake BlacX Duet 5G ST0022U Black HDD Docking Station
Cons:- STOCK FIRMWARE MAY BE DEFECTIVE: the firmware that came with my docking station was causing the device to disconnect randomly
Pros:- USB 3.0- Dual Docking station- accepts 2.5" and 3.5" SSD/HDD Comment:
WARNING: Stock Firmware MAY be faulty and you will need to update it!!!The firmware was causing the device to randomly drop the connection. One second you're transfer files or doing something critical like cloning a drive, the next second the drives aren't even connected to the computer.Only today have I update d the firmware (successfully), and it might or might not, but I am remaining hopeful.Otherwise, I think it's a good docking station, and it had definitely the potential to work exceptionally. |

Thermaltake BlacX Duet 5G ST0022U Black HDD Docking Station
Cons:Only one 3.5" and 2.5" drive sleeve !
Pros:Ease of installation Comment:
Works great when plugged into my router. Now serves as a backup drive. The second slot is useful when I need to read/copy data from system drives that can still function, but won't boot because of a "broken" Windows installation. |

Thermaltake BlacX Duet 5G ST0022U Black HDD Docking Station
Cons:That I never had one before now!
Pros:Wow it's fast! And sleek too! Comment:
Wow, straight out of the box and less than an hour later I'm cloning drives in Windows 7 x64. This thing is quick. I so needed this and am so glad to finally get it.No cons, just wish I had one of these a long time ago! |

Thermaltake BlacX Duet 5G ST0022U Black HDD Docking Station
Cons:More desk space taken up.Not a full dust cover for the 2.5" slot.Reminds of the goold old Nintendo(tm)(c) days where you needed to blow dust off the cartridges.
Pros:Looks good on your desk, especially if you have the ladies over.Works as expected.Reminds me of the good old Nintendo(tm)(c) days where you blow the dust off and swap cartridges back and forth. Comment:
I bought this to start a backup system with some older SATA hard drives. This peice looks quite nice on the desk, and has operated quite smoothly so far, backing up and transferring files.Would be more favorable if they designed it with a full dust cover protecting the 2.5" area of the slot as well. |

Thermaltake BlacX Duet 5G ST0022U Black HDD Docking Station
Cons:Does not appear to work with Linux at all.
Pros:Nothing ... disappointing piece of hardware ... Comment:
It consistently drops the USB connection at arbitrary times ... and during this behaviour it corrupts an NTFS device that works perfectly well on a standard USB connection. I've never heard of a USB device that cares what OS is running. I've tested it with XP and it appears to work. But even in this mode ... copying a disk to another disk mounted in the second slot is doomed to failure. I've contacted Thermaltake tech support ... haven't heard back from them for three weeks. Another message got blasted off today ... we'll see ... |

Thermaltake BlacX Duet 5G ST0022U Black HDD Docking Station
Cons:None that I can see
Pros:Durable hefty build design. Comment:
Purchased this dock specifically for cloning drives and as a media drive dock. I like the fact that it doesn't have an esata port. No need to use jumpers for older computers that can't read sata II or sata III since it uses USB 3.0 without fail. |

Thermaltake BlacX Duet 5G ST0022U Black HDD Docking Station
Cons:-Little Pricy, Get it on Sale/Rebate (Single Port, if that's all you require)-Does run a little WARM, Give the device room to breathe (Monitor HDDs)-Plug is a brick pack, would prefer standard 3-prong plug or extended 3-prong pack (More annoying than an issue, easy to compensate)
Pros:-Dual Port (Easy Swap)-SATA3 Plug & Play (FAST!!! for external)-Self Powered, Notebook Friendly-Backwards compatible-Small footprint (Portable)-Solid Construction & Appealing Design (It's Black!) Comment:
Great for HDD Backup/Swapping. As for running warm? I have a NAS in RAID1 (dual 2T 3.5s) that runs warm and that device has a fan/cooling system. Obviously, if you run it too much... it gets warm! I would recommned product, and would purchase another if I required it. Sorry, was not tested with larger that 2T, unable to comment on compatibility and functionality with larger HDDs. Tested on XP 32-bit, Vista 32-bit, and Win 7 64-bit without issue. |

Thermaltake BlacX Duet 5G ST0022U Black HDD Docking Station
Cons:- Two brand new units were DOA.
Pros:- Couldn't say, didn't work. Comment:
I purchased one of these to replace my old but truthworthy Thermaltake single slot USB2.0/eSATA dock. Problem was the new one was DOA, it would power up and the drives would spin but no data connection, infact not even recognized as a connected storage device according to the bios let alone Windows 7. I tried swapping USB 3.0 cables, I also tried it on a different PC, both of which have confirmed functioning USB 3.0 ports with latest drivers (I have a Vantec USB 3.0 enclosure that works perfectly). So I went back to the store and swapped it for a replacement unit, it had exactly the same problem at which point I returned it for a refund. As much as I would love to have a dual slot USB 3.0 dock like this, I'm going to wait it out before trying again and hope Thermaltake gets their act together and figures out what's wrong at least with this initial batch. |
I have RMA'd one unit and the replacement has failed too. I don't recommend this device.
