TomTom XL 340S 4.3" GPS navigation with IQ Routes Technology
Cons:
- ***dim screen*** During daylight (especially on bright sunny day), it's very hard to see the screen (this is such as downer for this product)- TomTom's way of clipping to the base is clumsy (needs two hand to clip to it); can fall off its base if pushing the screen a bit too hard or the wrong way- Auto-update with computer failed several times (not always on the same file; I've tried different computers, DMZ the autoupdate r - can't update properly)- No map update guarantee (they told me it was expired)- Can't function like the Yellowpages (i.e. find company address, phone numbers) whereas my old xRoad can- Zoom in/out icons are tiny in the corners
Pros: - Refurb price at $90 (I think at one point it was as low as $80)- Good GUI (not icons cluttered)- Base attachment to windshield is easy to use |

TomTom XL 340S 4.3" GPS navigation with IQ Routes Technology
Cons:Must be some but I've failed to recognize them.
Pros:Fair size screen, light weight. Shows red light camera locations - Can add much more free tid bits via Tom Tom website. Comment:
This is my first GPS navigation device although I've been considering buying one for quite some time. Throughout that time I have been researching them but felt the cost was a little over the top. Tom-tom was highly recommended by anyone that I had talked with & this unit fell within a comfortable price range time to pick one up!Really enjoyed my experience with the 340 version so far.. I mean it isn't perfect with its routing every time but its a great reference point and it really helps at a moments notice.I'm very pleased with my purchase if you're looking for an economical way to get into the GPS navigation market you can not go wrong with this unit. Tom Tom is the best glad I bought it. This review was modfied by poster @ 02-20-10 09:05 AM |
After a few years of satisfactory service, I decided to replace my old XRoad with this TomTom XL340s. I purchased of the low price point but I'm starting to regret it.The biggest low point is the dim screen. Compared to the xRoad, the contrast between the road, route, and objects are hard to see, making driving to an unknown destination a pain. Also, I've restarted the device several times after the update r says update failed. It's taking over 1/2hr (still counting) and several restart as instructed by the auto update d to update a 26.8 MB file.BTW, there in the box there's a slip that says NO RETURN TO PLACE OF PURCHASE; they should state that on the box and product description. I would rate it at 2 stars out of 5 but the site wouldn't accept my inv#. This review was modfied by poster @ 07-05-10 09:19 AM
