Good Stuff
Comment:
Won't boot my Atom computer to XP (I'm setting up a low power Majic Jack box). The problem: XP has lousy {no} utilities to format usb removable drive as a boot drive. The box sees it fine after XP starts, it's fast and the usb connection is great, so I give it top marks. I really just need more time to set it up. Probably should have gotten a board with pci-e slot. |

Great value and very fast! Run an OS right on it!
Comment:
I installed Ubuntu Linux right on this small card and when it is plugged into my Laptop, my Laptop boots directly into it (using boot from USB) and is noticeably faster than running the OS from the internal HDD (uses less power too). Now I can easily take my OS with me and start from another laptop, or even a desktop using the USB adapter. Bonnie++ Benchmarks: ( Read: 21 M/s, Write: 13 M/s, Rewrite: 7 M/s, Random Seeks: 1603/sec, Raw Data: Laptop,5456M,13265,35,11989,13,7007,10,21743,59,18179,10,1602.6,11,16,48,99,+++++,+++,480,100,85,99,+++++,+++,203,99). I tried the Windows Vista ReadyBoost (Vista on my HDD) and although it seemed to be working properly, I really didn't notice any difference in performance (my laptop is already fast without it, programs usually start in less than a second). |
This drive was bought as a back for my hard drive. The first one I received was bad and had to be sent back. I had to pay the shipping, very unhappy about that. It works but is kind of slow.
