USB Mini 5PIN 1394A 2 Port USB 2.0 HUB Subwoofer Output
Cons:
- USB ports only work if using the dock in USB mode- Can't vouch for Firewire speeds as they didn't work on this device.
Pros: - Claims to work with any SATA drive of any size Comment:
Bought today with a Western Digital 2TB Caviar Green, was hoping to hook it up to my Intel iMac over Firewire 800. While the product looks nice, it has some serious issues. The description indicates it has a two port USB hub. What it doesn't tell you (and it says only on the back of the box in fine print) is the USB functionality is only available when connected by USB to your machine. Not a deal breaker for me, but an annoyance as I now have two useless ports, as I'm connecting this via Firewire 800.Which brings me to the second issue: Firewire doesn't work. At all. I can dock the drive, and it doesn't show up in Finder, let alone Disk Utility, using either Firewire 800 or Firewire 400 (it comes with both cables). I thought it may be the hard drive, as it's a 2TB drive, but the box says it accepts any SATA drive.Unplug the Firewire cables and plug in the USB, and guess what? It works. The drive mounts, I can see it, Finder wants me to initialize it, and I can partition it in Disk Utility. So I created a single partition, formatted it, unmounted the drive, disconnected the USB, and reconnected the Firewire 800 cable.Nothing.Suffice it to say this is a serious disappointment - it's basically a $70 USB dock with a couple of USB ports. This will be going back in the morning and I'll be looking for something else, preferably with working Firewire this time. Avoid this as well as the Y-1061 - someone noted Firewire didn't seem to work on that one either...Would rate this one star but the server kept complaining I was entering an invalid order number when I submitted this...where the heck is it on the receipt anyhow? |
Great little docking station. No issues whatsoever, firewire is great and the USB is fine too. I like to use all my hard drives with a docking station and this works great.
