VANTEC MRK-250FD 2.5" USB 2.0 & SATA External Enclosure - Retail
Cons:- Drive enclosure not totally snug when in hotswap bay, but unlike some comments that I've come across, I don't experience any rattles or vibration problems whatsoever.
Pros:- Runs as fast as a fixed 2.5" hard drive.- Very good quality.- With drive inserted, eject button only protrudes 1cm so cases with doors shouldn't have a problem. Comment:
I do 95% of my computing on my desktop, with the remainder on my notebook, and I'd have to say that with this hot-swappable hard drive I no longer even use my USB flash drive to transfer chunks of data as it now seems slow. While I haven't done any scientific testing, I can say from casual observations that this enclosure allows the drive to run just as fast as if it were mounted into the tower by screws and running on a direct connection. Using the USB connection to my notebook also operates without incident.Just a note to anyone interested in using this for it's hotswap ability, I'd suggest checking your bios for a setting that allows the particular SATA port this will be plugged into to operate as hotswap friendly. I ordered this without reading ad fully and was expecting an external hard drive case and was very suprized that is is also intenal with a rack mount system.small carrying case for the drive and cable was also a very nice touch.
