Password protected. Can't use it at work on XP Professional unless you can sign in as an Administratior which I am in the Admin group. Will not operate with my residence XP or Win2000 systems either. I am administrator -- bought new one particular same thing. 8GB model functions fine. Don't purchase 4GB for use on these computers. SanDisk more dependable and faster.
