WD Caviar GP 1TB Hard Drive
Cons:not plug and play, SATA cable not included.only 931GB useable, but that's normal sadly.

Pros:load's of hard drive space to put all my videos on.easy to plug in. much faster than other Hard drives I've had.
Comment:
I bought this drive because my WD 250gbwas almost constantly full and I couldn't keep up with burning stuff off also I got $10 off during the sale. When I bought this drive I wasn't sure if it came with a SATA cable so I searched NCIX for one and was glad to see it on sale for 99Cents so I got one just incase, I'm glad I did. I plugged in the hard drive and my computer wouldn't even recognize it so I plugged in my 250gb drive in the same cable's and it worked fine. I was a bit nervous because I wasn't sure if sata2 worked with sata1 mobo. after calming down a bit I went to http://www.wdc.com and downloaded Lifeguard tools and WD Diagnostics. with both of the programs I got my hard drive up and running and copyed all my data files over to my new hard drive and now I'm enjoying more than 1100GB's on my PC.PS: I'm running win XP so vista might not have any problems.

WD Caviar GP 1TB Hard Drive
Cons:None

Pros:Quiet, reliable and low power consumption
Comment:
Even though I have never had a WD drive failure since my first 20MB WD hard drive in the early 1990's, I decided to buy 2 of these to make my first RAID 1 drive setup, but I should have bought 3 of these babies to make a RAID 5 configuration instead.

I have always been a fan of WD. I got this to replace my Seagate 1TB because it started to make noise after a few weeks.

WD Caviar GP 1TB Hard Drive
Cons:no

Pros:This drive was a breeze to install, fast and I would recommend it.
Comment:
I got my new hard drive, and it is the best! i mean, i can install every program that i can get my hands on, and it wont slow down my computer or do anything to harm it! unlike my cheap 250 giga byte hard drive, when i install a program it would always start slowing down ma computer and cause a lot of problems! well, if u are planning to get a GOOD hard drive, this is the one for you guys! also, there is so much room untill u cannot fill the hard drive!!!!!!!!

WD Caviar GP 1TB Hard Drive
Cons:Seek noise could be a bit quieter, but it's still very good with AAM at 128

Pros:Quiet! Requires very little cooling. Fast.
Comment:
Although I have a gaming rig, it's built for silence. My old hard drive (250gb WD) was far too loud, so I bought this one as a compromise between speed and sound. The performance is great and it's the quietest 3.5" drive I have ever heard. I heartily recommend it to anyone with quiet in mind, although it is still beaten by some 2.5" drives (though not at the same performance level).

WD Caviar GP 1TB Hard Drive
Cons:none, well maybe it's not the top of the class for speed but it's not supposed to be and it's not noticeable anyways.

Pros:QuietCoolHandles 1080p media easily

I bought this drive to replace a 500gb 7200.10 seagate drive that started failing on me (only had that drive for less than 6months and it had bad sector problems and clicking already). I have no problems with it's reported ~5400RPM speed, and it handled my transferring all the data of a seagate 320gb and 500gb drives. What impressed me was during the transfer, the drive stayed really cool. I didn't have a fan on it as it was just sitting on my desk plugged in via usb with a sata-usb adapter I have. The whole time during transfer, the drive temp never felt hot and the whole time, the drive never sounded loud or clicked like my seagates. It's a solid drive. I don't have it as a boot drive, just storage for media like tv shows and movies. No problems with playback and seeking, even with 1080p stuff. Really happy with WD again and looking forward to more from their GP stuff in the future! This review was modfied by poster @ 02-08-08 01:42 PM

WD Caviar GP 1TB Hard Drive
Cons:ExpensiveSlow (5400rpm)Noisy

Pros:Spacious3 Yr Warranty
Comment:
I bought this a while ago thinking it was a bargain .. yeah BAD IDEA. I have this for secondary storage as my CPU 3800+ begs for a faster HDD. I store my media on here (movies/music) because games, applications are simply open too slow ... every second counts in my world! As far as noice is concerned .. it's fairly loud. But I guess the size is to blame for that. I have a Thermaltake case and boy when this thing starts to spin with my heatsink one word: LOUD!

WD Caviar GP 1TB Hard Drive
Cons:Unreliable. The last thing you want to feel about your hard drive is uncertainty.

Pros:Quiet, Large, and Powersmart this drive is potentially the perfect disk for a HTPC or NAS in your living room.

A great drive... if it works for you. Here is my story on why I have a sour opinion on this drive and Western Digital.I received and RMA'd 2 drives from NCIX. The drives would click-click-and-click when turned on, and the PC could not detect them. The third drive was finally detected in the BIOS. However, I was horrified to read that the BIOS reported the 1000 gig drive as being 0 gigs. Yes, zero.Actually, fdisk later confirmed that it was actually detected as a 32 megabyte disk. WD's customer support wasn't too helpful, and eventually google turned up methods of re-sizing the drive and removing this "Host Protected Area". While researching, I stumbled across at least one other user who had the same problem with this drive. In summary, the drive is working great now. I am very happy with it. NCIX was very good and helpful with the RMAs. Next time, I think I'll try buying the 1TB Seagate or Hitachi. Oh, I've also got to mention that NICX has the Hitachi on sale right now for $30 less than this WD. Especially since the 1TB Hitachi is faster, cheaper, and hopefully more dependable.
