I've definitely found myself drifting to only buying Western Digital hard drives due to their rave reviews for having an extremely low defect rate with good customer service. These Caviar Blacks are no exception and continue to work after a year of fairly hard usage (my computer stays on 24/7 and there is constant writing, reading, and rewriting going on. |

These black series hard drives are great and are worth the $$$. I purchased two of them for a raid mirror. It's nice to know they are constructed well and backed by a 5 year warranty. These black drives come with sata3 connection and a huge 64mb cache. If your budget isn't limiting you to a blue drive, then these black drives are worth considering. |

when it works i will post as soon as it works i will post I just bought a 1 TB Western Digital Black Caviar (WD10002faex) 6.0Gb/s sata difficult drive to use as a secondary drive. When I open my personal computer it does not appear nevertheless I can see it when i right click my computer system and open the manage tab. It is described as Disk1, unknown, 931.51 gb, not initialized and unallocated.I have been told not to initialize it as the master boot record because that will mess with my principal drive. I also have tossed in a jumper to see if it would support considering that my motherboard is a three. gb/s board and i have a 6. drive (that is backwards compatible). I truly dont know what to do proper now and any suggestions would be wonderful.Thanks |

You get a lot of space and pretty good performance for a very low cost. What more could you ask for?My only problem with it is that it gets a bit loud. I sometimes leave my computer on overnight, and the noise the thing makes is a bit distracting, but that's just a nit picky minor thing. |

This is arguably the best 7200 rpm performance hard drive. The price is great and I had problems installing it in a recent build. I had been using Hitachi drives before but ever since WD bought them they've been lacking with their products and I've switched over to WD. I see no difference which is good since Hitachi was great. |

I'm using a number of these WD Blacks but this is the first 6GB unit. I've heard they are noisy, but frankly I can't hear anything from it, so I'd rate it as a quiet drive. These are a very fast drive and worth the extra cost over other drives. I've been using "Blacks" for a number of years and they've been reliable, so I expect the same from this one. The 5 year warranty also says a lot about their reliability. |

Cons:the drive is slightly more noisy that my previous one but it's nothing to drastic.
Pros:I use this HDD as my system drive and it works just perfectly. It's true that it isn't a SSD but it's the closest that conventionnal drive will take you! I use to have a Caviar Blue as a system drive and there is a big difference between the two. The caviar black is much faster. Comment:

The two replacement drives from Newegg were not dead like the initial two. The initial replacement drive had a jumper setting to limit this to three. GB/s. The second replacement drive has diverse jumper settings with no limitation setting. I ordered two drives, in two separate packages on the exact same day. One was shipped in a white box with excellent packaging...the other was in an open ended cardboard box. It had fallen out of the bubble wrap and was flopping about in the box. Newegg, can't you be consistent in your shipping? Or could you at least use some common sense? Put some tape on the edge of your open box inside a box so the drive will not fall out. I love you newegg, but you're generating it challenging occasionally. |

Incredibly quickly drive, it's SATA 6. Gb/s. Runs fantastic. five year warranty! A small noisy from time to time, which is a shame, mainly because of all the other WDs I've owned they have been whisper silent. Not too poor, but it did trigger me to check my Intelligent diagnostic and then double check with WD (who has fantastic customer support) just to be secure. Sounds like that same grinding noise you get with actually old HDDs, but it's not as loud (can only hear it in a quiet room and when you're paying attention to it) and only happens at random intervals. Could have gotten it cheaper had I utilised WD's loyalty program to upgrade from my old 250 GB Caviar. Knocked off one star due to that sound, due to the fact I know WD can make completely silent drives without having a problem. I have two that are five and 4 years old now and they still make no noise. Overall a excellent drive and unless you have your ear up to your pc you probably won't even notice it. |

I've been using SSD's for a while now and when I first got this drive I forgot how loud hard disks were. This is for a gaming computer so an SSD is out of the question. You won't find anything better than this if you want a cheap, fast hard drive with a ton of space. |
I put this in a Asus p6x58d mb and it flies by means of the installs. Nothing but smiles on this face. I have had NO difficulties with this harddrive. Couldn't be happier
