I bought this for my first build of a quad core Athlon II X4 tower to use as an OS/storage drive, so far its been a great drive and has plenty of space but I'm using it fairly quickly (I'm a bit of a hoarder)I plan on picking up 2 more of these in the far off future (I'm pretty poor lol) to bulk up my storage as they're the fastest and most reliable (from what I've read and friends have told me about the other WD drives) of the WD drives available but likely will pick up a few 2TB Green's for backup as welloverall a great drive, just wish they made bigger sizes of the Black models (1TB is as high as it goes, would like to see a 2TB model) |

Cons:-Hot (not bad in a case w/ good airflow; they will add to your ambient but still will hold their own even in a poorly-ventilated case)-Noisy (mostly noticeable in a RAID setup)

WD delivers yet again... What more can I say, this is THE hard drive to get on a budget. Near-raptor performance for 1/3 the price.I think I will set mine up for storage when I eventually make the jump to SSD. |

This drive works great. I intended to use it for a backup+system files (Temp/TMP/My Documents folders.) along side my SSD OS install. My SSD died the same day I got this drive so it became my OS drive until the SSD returns from RMA. I have to say, it's not near the same level of shock to the system as going back to my 5+ year old 500GB WD drive like last time. It boots up quick, and apps work pretty quickly after seeing the desktop. Not near as quick as an SSD obviously but impressive none the less. I would happily buy another if needed. |

Pros:Compatible with Sata 1, 2, 3.Fast with an acceptable level of noise and heat.In the past, WD HDD was always reliable with a long life span. Comment:

Got this on sale here. Some people had problems getting computer to recognize this harddrive or at less some versions of it (WD1002FAEX-00Y9A0 ). But ncix sent me the good version (WD1002FAEX-00Z3A0) no problems at all with this one. computer recognized it as sata 3 harddrive. i have the 32mb cache one too and this one runs a lot cooler than the the 32mb one. i don't think its quieter, about the same.But i do think its faster. Its got a 5 year warranty with it too. Support wise...WD is very good !!! i'm getting another one for sure. |

I've had this drive for about 3 months now and it's been an excellent upgrade. Previously I had a bunch of 120GB and 160GB Seagate’s. So, the capacity is an obvious upgrade but I wasn't expecting the speed boost. It's notable. Also, I have some even older drives from WD and they are still working so that speaks for the companies' reliability. The only downside, and its minor imo, is the drive is fairly noisy when it's working hard. |

First of all, don't let my 4/5 stars scare you from buying this drive. This drive has been great so far. It is very fast for a non SSD and it has a crapload of storage space. My only problem with it is that I have noticed it is a little bit noisy when it is booting up or writing data. It almost sounds like those older computers the way it kind of ticks away. It is very quite and I would still buy this drive again given it's price and storage size. The noise it makes really isn't that bad, but it is worth mentioning. |

They may not be the absolute speed king for HDDs (I hear the new Samsungs are king of the hill for HDD speed) but they are right up there.Highly recommended. At $80 on sale this is a great deal even though 1tb Seagates go for $50 on saleI've had no problems with WD i own 4x2tb Greens and 1x1tb black and they all crmp on my seagate and hitachi harddrives
