This is the 2nd WD hard drive I have bought (the initially was an external hard drive) and the 2nd defective one I have received! I purchased it for a backup drive and did not understand it was defective within the 30 return period since I had to wait for my personal computer tech to set up the backup for me. Now I cannot get a refund from Newegg and have to go via the manufacturer. Buyer beware. My "other brand" difficult drive functions quite properly and I regret taking somebody else's guidance to give WD a different likelihood mainly because this individual had superior luck with a laptop challenging drive.

Windows 7 house premium 64 installed without any troubles whatsoever. I have not noticed any concern of the drive not being recognized as I've read in a few other critiques. HDTune clocks it at 150 MB/s a speedy 50% bandwidth increase more than my SATA 3.0Gb/s drive (also a WD caviar series drive). As usually Newegg order processing rocks!

Otherwise, everything else goes into the hard drive. Great performance! Too bad these hard drives are waaaaay more expensive now after the tragedy in Thailand. For everybody's sake, I hope things get better down there.

Pros:Fast, large capacity and pretty quick. Comment: When I first got it I used it for everything (OS and storage). It was my main hard drive (now it's storage only). I've been very happy with it for the past 7 months and I have not once gone through any issues so this drive is simply excellent. I'm using it on SATA III for maximum performance. It's pretty quick, even when almost full! I highly recommend this hard drive. Caviar Black all the way!

It may be overkill, but if you saw what I built, the hard drive would be on the bottom of the list to pick at. Always had good experiences with WD hard drives. Had one fail after 7 years in service. I think that is acceptable.

Noisy, and appears to get additional so with use. Got my construct image and data backups offline. Loads games quickly and Windows 7 starts up in under a minute.

Please note the caviar "black" means it's a performance HDD from western digital. It's been around for several years at this point. If your looking for a quick non solid state hdd it's an excellent choice. Pair this drive for storage and large programs with a ssd as a boot drive and you'll have a smoking system.
